Reverend Ian Kenyon knows the harsh sting of life and how a man can suffer a loss of faith. The death of his wife and newborn son shook him to his foundations, and he's been drifting ever since. Bryn Morgan has returned home from prison to the only family he has—an abusive father who abandoned him to the law when Bryn was unjustly accused of rape. Still poor, lost, and shunned, Bryn searches for work, any work that will allow him to survive.
Reluctantly moved by Bryn's plight, Ian hires the young man to work on his farm, despite Bryn's prickly, defensive nature. Soon Ian fears his growing feelings of grace and compassion might be something else, something more... heated. Whatever the cause, he knows they are impossible to pursue, because Heaven only knows what would happen if a man of God began to have forbidden feelings for his hired man.

"Surprisingly amazing"
Gorgeously written. The emotions within are raw and beautiful. I couldn't stop reading. And the reader is perfect. At first, even listening to the sample, I laughed because I couldn't believe he intended to read the entire book this way. But, that slow, deliberate way he reads made the scenes come alive and listening to certain scenes drove me insane with the way he put emotion into every heart-wrenching, gorgeous word.
"Captivating from the start!"
Believable, compelling, stimulating
Unlike any other book, this has rich threads of suspense, deep emotion and some twists and turns which keep the listener riveted to the story. Set in the historical context of the early United States, the descriptive elements of the story provide a feeling that listener is actually watching the story unfold. The characters feel real and the lives they live are three dimensional making this one of very best books in it's genre. There really is no other book to compare this to.
Mr. Braa's rich, masculine and true voice bring the characters to life. His narration creates a complete experience bringing the listener center stage. He demonstrates the remarkable ability to make each character real. It's like being there, on the inside of the tale.
It's so easy to identify with different aspects of each character; their struggles, pain, joy, and conflict are immediately felt by the listener. It is truly a remarkable book.
Highly recommend this one!
"Fantastic!"
Touching, steamy, fast-paced love story that tugs at the heart-strings and leaves you saying 'awww' over and over again.
When the characters first got close.
This was a great book. I hunger for more from this author. The narration was also good, although I must say, I did not need to hear them 'cough' or 'clear' their throat then get told that they coughed or cleared their throats. The sounds during the love scenes were great though. A very talented voice actor although, sometimes I could hear when the narrator had paused then come back.
The book was well done though. I don't need a sequel of course, but I look forward to more from this author and this narrator.
"Better than I expected, but wait for a sale."
I really enjoyed the narration. The story was slow during some parts but the performance was really splendid. It can be comical to hear a male reading in the voice of a female, but after a few minutes, it became tolerable.
I'd first compare it to Brokeback Mountain. The 2 men working on a farm in a historical setting gave a twist to what could have been a cookie cutter gay romance story. Then there was a touch of Grapes of Wrath mixed in to show a contrast between middle and lower class.
Most of the story worked really well. The book has its moments of really great writing, and others seemed to be cut down. The ending was very anticlimactic. Too much happens within the last 30 minutes of the book that should have been dedicated to a more well rounded closing.
Brynn was the memorable one. Although I related more to Ian, I found myself analyzing the character of Brynn more. The secret he keeps throughout the first part of the book makes what he does really intriguing.
Some of the sex scenes were too much for the story. They stand out in contrast to what is really going on deeper in the characters. And there are a few graphic words in this one, which also seemed out of place.
"disappointing"
This story had potential. I was enjoying it then.....it ended abruptly. I have to assume that there will be a continuation. It was very odd.
"Pointless garbage"
Nope. Total nonsense.
Nope. Waste of time.
By not doing it?
Anger, sadness, and disappointment that I actually spent money and time on it.
