Publisher's Summary

In Eyes of Prey, Bekker, an insane pathologist who experiments with his patients’ pain thresholds, is finally brought down by an unrelenting Lucas Davenport, who brutally maims the doctor’s beautiful face but leaves him alive. “You should have killed me,” were Bekker’s parting and prophetic words.

In this sequel to Eyes of Prey, Bekker endures the indignities and horrors of imprisonment, taking comfort in the fact that it is only a matter of time before he will make Lucas Davenport pay.

    "Couldn't Stop Listening"

I just couldn't stop listening to this book. The plot and exposition, especially the sub-plot about the "Robin Hood" cops just held me until it was over. It also got me thinking.

This story takes place mostly in NYC during the last days of the Dinkins administration, when the city is on the brink of falling apart. The subplot about the Robin Hood cops who decide to take out some of the more egregious low-lifes making the city a hell-hole, presents some great arguments both pro & con. However, history shows that when the next administration, headed by Rudy Giuliani came in and started enforcing ALL the laws, especially the quality of life laws lawlessness went way down. The city now seems quite decent. This kept running through my head all the while reading the book.
I used to live in NY state, not too far from the city and saw all this happen, so the story resonates with me, and I could understand the discouragement of those cops.

    "Loved it."

To be fair, I love these books (and not just the Davenport series, but the Virgil Flowers series too). I love Richard Ferrone as the narrator. I've recently started going back and listening/reading the very first of his novels (for the first time), and they are just as good as his later novels. If I had one criticism, (and this is a truly lame point) I think the cover art is lousy. Let's be honest, if your biggest criticism of a book is that the cover art is lousy, chances are it's going to be a good book.

    "Lucas vs Becker Pt.2"
What made the experience of listening to Silent Prey the most enjoyable?

The pace and depth of the story.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Silent Prey?

When Lucas finally figured out how Becker was able to get close to his victims.

Which character – as performed by Richard Ferrone – was your favorite?

Michael Becker, Richard Ferrone made it seem like Becker was actually standing in front of me. I could feel the Insaneness in his voice.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

    Beauty and the Beast inside.

    Any additional comments?

If a movie is made, don't cast Mark Harmon as Lucas. It needs to be someone more imposing to capture the essence of Lucas Davenport.

I am 57, an English Lit major in college who has worked in a technicial field most of my life. I live near saltwater and in the evening, the wind blows the coolness of the mist and salt air through town like a welcome visitor with a freshly baked cake in their arms. Be well, Tom

    Always Lucas Davenport.

What about Richard Ferrone’s performance did you like?

He becomes the characters. Great reading voice, excellent emotional investment in the book.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

    It was all good.

    Any additional comments?

You will love to hate this writer and reader....they are so good, you would rather listen than eat.
