"Fantastic - Suchet is the best"

To describe this item merely as an audiobook does David Suchet an injustice. Suchet's range of voices coupled with his finely tuned acting skills really inject some life into this reading. Apart from the reading style, I thought the story itself was also superb with a really clever ending. I don't understand why Audible don't release more Agatha Christie books especially since she is still the best selling audio-author in the UK. Or so I heard anyway.

    "The Mysterious Affair at Styles"

A marvelous story of classic defective work. For us who love Hercule Poirot only David Suchet could do the story justes as the famous Belgian. I hope that Audible will have more of the series read by David.

    "Thoroughly Enjoyable!"

Having seen David Suchet in some of the recent TV series based on the books, I was intrigued to see that he was the narrator for this one.

I found him very enjoyable to listen to, especially his accented voice so recognisable as his screen alter-ego's. It was inspired to recruit his services.

I fervently hope that further David Suchet-narrated Agatha Christies will become available at Audible.com!

    "Excellent."

Excellent stuff. Agatha Christie, still one of the best murder mystery writers, read by the talented David Suchet - it doesn't get much better than this. Sit back and enjoy from beginning to end. David's ability to assume different voices for each character is awesome. He has to be one of the most talented narrators you could find on Audible or anywhere else. A most enjoyable listen, a rattling good yarn from the 'Queen of Crime' read by the endearing and best ever Poirot.

    "Brilliant narrator"

Aside of the fact that the story is awesome and convoluted as one expects from Agatha Christie, what makes this book to pearl it is, is the absolutely fabulous performance of Mr. Suchet.

Never have I listened to a better narrated audio book. This is a must-listen for basically anybody.

    "First Rate"

Although I had read this book before in hard copy, the excellent audiobook version, with none other than David Suchet narrating, was a wonderful listening experience. I was so sorry when it ended. More Christie please!

"The first Christie, by the best Poirot!"

I love this story! It's the first Christie, the first Poirot, and the same setting as the final Poirot. Suchet does a wonderful job with the story, will all characterizations, as well as with his own inimitable Poirot. Highly recommended!

    "A perfect comfort read"

I discovered Agatha Christie in my teens, when the prospect of every one of her books was a promise of excitement and thrills. Revisiting some of her most well-liked titles in the past few years, I was more often than not left slightly disappointed; of course the novelty of Chirsite's style and approach had worn off and simply could not seem as original as it had long ago, and the whole concept of "comfort reading" hadn't quite taken hold of me yet. Strange that I had never read this first instalment in the series before. Set in a great mansion, the Styles Court of the title, an elderly heiress is suspected of having been murdered by strychnine poisoning. Captain Hastings is a guest at Styles and suggests to bring in Hercules Poirot to quietly work out the mystery and avoid alerting the media in what is a high profile case and most likely a crime motivated by greed. Published in 1920, there are several references to the Great War, giving this novel a historical context, something I have never noticed with the other books in the series. The characters of Hastings and Poirot seem fully formed, and Poirot's methodology already well in place, and I was once again won over by the charm of what is by now a comfortably familiar formula with two well-known main characters. David Suchet's delivery is of course impeccable.

An old broad that enjoys books of all types. Would rather read than write reviews though. I know what I like, and won't be bothered by crap.

    "First Hercule Poirot!"
What did you love best about The Mysterious Affair at Styles?

The twists and turns and red herrings. Wonderful Agatha Christie.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Mysterious Affair at Styles?

When Poirot gathers the family together to let them know his results. Classic Christie.

What about David Suchet’s performance did you like?

He plays Poirot on Public Broadcasting so he was the perfect voice for Monsieur Poirot.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I laughed, it was a wonderful solution!

    Any additional comments?

Looking into getting more Christie books.
