"An important book ruined by the narration."
How could the performance have been better?The monotonous and often mispronounced delivery by Parker Posey makes it extremely difficult to listen to this incredibly important book. Surely someone better could have been found.

"Get this book"
Would you consider the audio edition of The Feminine Mystique to be better than the print version?I don't read print versions, much prefer audiobooks.
What other book might you compare The Feminine Mystique to and why?Perhaps this could compare to Rachel Carsons "Silent Spring". It sheds light on an interesting topic that is as relevant today as it was when the book was written. I don't think the author realised how "ground breaking" her book was at the time.
Both of these books were ahead of their time & yet Betty Friedan really struck a chord with females - and males - of her time.
Which character – as performed by Parker Posey – was your favorite?It's non-fiction, no characters.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?Quite a few parts. When she starts getting a lot of "me too"s from women who are going nuts trying to do "housewife" while their brain is screaming at them to do something "real".
Any additional comments?This is well worth the read. It's easy to listen to but she covers so many areas so well. It pre-dates the feminist movement so her work is uninfluenced by other writers of the genre but it fits so closely what we still experience these days. Even having got a degree, even a post graduate qualification females will often experience the difficulty of having a career (not just a "job") vs being a partner, mother & carer.
What do you do? & Do you have children? Are the first 2 questions I'm often asked by strangers.
This book just makes sense of so many things.
