Imitation in Death: In Death, Book 17

Eve Dallas continues her career as a top notch cop who, this time, is after a serial killer imitating the most famous serial killers of all time. As always, JD Robb weaves an interesting mystery while continuing to develop the returning characters. We learn a bit more about Eve's past. Peabody takes the next step in her career - and personal life. And last, but not least, Susan Erickson seems back on her game by reverting back to the original voices that made the characters so beloved in the audio series.

I am slowly buying the series with audible.

There is soo many volumes in the series and I tend to forget the details, so it is a lot of fun to reread and enjoy them all over again.

I forgot how much Peabody was nervous about taking her detective test, the many and interesting red herrings(all of them looking suspicious)and the side story of Roake and Eve's mother. Also, i love the home cookout scene where Eve meets Mira's daughter for the first time and has a heart to heart. It was really touching.

OK, I loved the book. The title of my review has more to do with a comment an the murderer's performance at some stages than on the book itself. The last book advanced Roarke's history and this book advances Eve's. Possibly because murder and death are just part of life, but I somehow sense that the ongoing revelations and development of the character's lives are a parallel of aspects of the main plot. I find that this is subtly and interestingly done. I listen to the stories several times and notice little gems and aspects that I was not aware of before. I find that feminism is not overdone in the books and Robb (Roberts) provides a fairly balanced view of the sexes. Although I am a man, I am happy that Dallas offers a fairly good, albeit imperfect, role model for woman as competent and tough, but not beyond using her feminine wiles. I have noticed that the psychological hypotheses of the characters show a more pop psychology touch, whereas Myra's analyses are more professional, a disparate perspective of expertise that offers an interesting touch that gives the characters greater depth. I have tried to read the series from beginning to end, with some tangential journeys. I enjoy the series very much.

J.D. Robb did a great job with this one. Someone is murdering women and he has no new ideas on how to kill. This murderer is coping the great murderers of the past. The first murder was like Jack the Ripper. Now Dallas and her team are trying to find out what murderer is going to be copied next, but all the people that are on her list of suspects are high profile. The deeper she digs the more politics she has to play, and Dallas hates politics. J.D. Robb does a wonderful job blinding old serial killers with the futuristic time. Susan Ericksen did a great job in the narration of this book, like the rest in this series.

I love this and all of the other stories so far ... I can wait to listen to the rest. I love the way Susan Erickson does the characters

5 Stars! J.D. Robb does it again. Seventeen books in and this series is still going strong!! It never gets old for me and it just keeps getting better. Roarke and Eve are so comfortable in their relationship, it makes me smile. I love the way they tease each other, Eve comes off as so aloof and annoyed, all the while loving it when Roarke irks her into submission. The passion and desire they have for each other gives me the warm fuzzies. On this particular case Eve brings Roarke on board as a consultant and whenever that happens it just adds a little extra to the read. The more Roarke...the better. Along for the ride are the crazy love birds, Peabody and McNab, Eve's rock...Feeney, and the lovely Dr. Mira. All that and another amazing plot, with a psychotic killer, tense moments, as Eve whittles away at the clues to find justice for the victims!!


Susan Erickson is phenomenal as the book's narrator. She nails the voice for each character, and injects the right emotion and inflection, making an already thrilling read...EVEN BETTER!!

I recently began to re-listen to the titles I own, and I am reminded (again) how much I enjoy this series. There's enough of the cop process, the mystery, to make it more than 'just a romance,' but there's always, /always/, personal aspects in Robb's characters. These little things bring those characters to life, give them depth, and make these books worth enjoying again. Peabody and the other cops aren't just extra props, and Eve's complicated relationship with her, with Rourke, with all the people in her immediate circle make her (to me) a far more interesting main character than just some chick in a fluff romance. The issues and angsts aren't your typical, cliche baggage, and arent' always completely resolved at the end of the book. It's a nice touch, and when you add the personality that Erickson brings to each voice, it makes a very enjoyable listen.

I will admit, listening to the first in the series had me wondering. Accepting the space age things in 2059 almost had me put off as too "out there" but I hung in to listen to the whole book and lord am I glad I did!! I'm not sure who to admire more, the author for her incredible writing or Susan Erickson for her wonderfully versatile performances reading this amazing series. Erickson has the ability to become an entire cast of characters seamlessly with sometimes the slightest changes in accent, or tone that instantly have you recognizing each as a separate entity. She IS Eve Dallas, and Peabody, and oh so much Roarke. This is one amazing actress and I can't thank her enough for having me pinned to my seat, or laughing out loud. But I don't want to short change JD Robb who absolutely flabberghasts me at the in depth way she has Dallas "become" her suspects. I've never read or listened to any author who could so deeply look into the mind of a criminal and in such a very believable way as to keep me pinned to my Ipod. As I'm sure so many other women are, I'm madly in love with Roarke, and think Peabody is "iced". All the characters are so clear, both from the authors ability to provide the words, and Susan's ability to create the scenes in my mind. I will be listening to every book in this series, so JD, keep 'em coming. I don't EVER want to catch up with you and have to wait for the next one.

There is nothing I would change about this book. True to form in this series.

I like how the Peabody character has slowly evolved in the series. This book was more about her character and the murders themselves and less about the relationship between Dallas and Roarke, which was good.

My favorite characters are Peabody and McNaab. I know the voices are a bit extreme, even though they have changed some, I still enjoy them. And what character could be more sexier than Roarke?

This book inspired me to read the next book.

I can not compare the In Death series to anything else. Robb is amazing no other series has been able to hold my attention for 17 books. I am loving it keep em' coming!

Susan some how makes all of the characters real to me. I am glad she has brought back the original voice of Peabody it is so endearing. Susan is a wonderful narrator.

When Eve made Peabody her partner I couldn't help but tear up. Peabody just loves and admires Eve. I could just imagine how she felt at that moment.

I can't wait to start the next book!
