Publisher's Summary

The company chairman lay on the cold ground of the woods, his eyes unseeing, his orange hunting jacket punctured by a rifle bullet at close range. Around him stood the four executives with whom he had been hunting, each with his or her own complicated agenda, each with a reason not to be sorrowful about the man's death. If he read it in a book, Lucas Davenport thought, it would seem like one of those classic murder mysteries, the kind where the detective gathers everyone together at the end and solves the case with a little speech.

But it wasn't going to be that easy, he knew. There were currents running through this group, hints and whispers of something much greater than the murder of a single man. He had felt this way not long before, sensed the curling of an indefinable evil, and not only had it nearly gotten him killed, it had lost him his fiancee, who'd never been able to recover from the violence of the encounter. Sometime soon, unless he could stop it, there would be another death, and then still another, and Davenport couldn't help but wonder if maybe this time, the final death might not be his own....

John Sandford has written extraordinary thrillers before, but nothing to top the startling twists and unrelenting suspense of Secret Prey.

    "All the Davenport series"

I get a great kick out of the Davenport series, it's a little more complex then Patterson but one of the better series besides Reacher

I just picture Gibbs from NCIS as Lucas & it's very entertaining, this goes for all the series books , like any series I'm sure some are much better then others but its worth the time & credit

    "Very good Davenport take."

I thoroughly enjoy the "Prey" series by John Sandford, starring Lucas Davenport. I find that I usually read these in clumps. I'll read a number of books that are more literary in nature and then desire something that I can just enjoy and have fun with.

For this purpose, Sandford's novels are perfect. The characters, Davenport in particular, are well developed and have all grown as the series has progressed. The stories are different than most detective fiction, in that we almost always know who the killer is early in the plot's development. It's not a whodunit but rather a how do we catch them.

I wholeheartedly recommend this and all the "Prey" novels as an excellent escape from mundane daily life.

    "Another awesome Prey Novel"
Where does Secret Prey rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Sandford's a terrific storyteller and Ferrone tells it well. Never been a boring Prey novel and this one's right up there!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Lucas Davenport is a crime-solving son of a gun....Sandford gives him believability....seems very realistic and always interesting.

What about Richard Ferrone’s performance did you like?

The voice is perfect for the story....and always is. Can't imagine another voice/style for a Davenport novel.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Brought the iPod with me from the car...and finished in a weekend.

    "Exciting and thrilling mystery"
What did you love best about Secret Prey?

The author presents word-pictures of scenes and events by giving specific details that appeal to the five senses, or to the reader’s imagination. Description presents background and setting. This story had me hooked from start to finish.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

This plot did keep me on the edge of my seat. So many of the characters had reason to pull the trigger. Everytime I thought I had it figured out a new twist would unfold in the story.

Which character – as performed by Richard Ferrone – was your favorite?

    Lucas

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

I would leave it as Secret prey a Lucas Davenport mystery
