In the words of the Buddha, the four foundations of mindfulness (the four sadhipatthanas) are " the direct path for the purification of beings, for the surmounting of sorrow and lamentation, for the disapperance of dukkha (suffering) and discontent, for the acquiring of the true method, for the rea;ization of Nibbahna." Within the quinitessential discourse called the Satipatthana Sutta, we find the Buddha's seminal teachings on the practice of meditation.

Get this book (there is only one by Joseph Goldstein here; but what a gem!)
and a couple of Jack Kornfields' (they are all excellent)
and a couple of Pema Chodrins' (this is key, mind won't wake without heart)
Maybe throw in Ram Das or Adyashanti
(Alan Watts minces no words either)
Take a couple of weeks off
Go somewhere quiet and full of nature
Listen, sit, walk, transform.
I would recommend this book to any serious meditator. There are tons of books in circulation for beginners, most of them very good (some also by Joseph Goldstein), but very little out there that explore the Dharma in depth. Joseph Goldstein continues the line-by-line exploration of the Sattipattana Sutta he began in
“Whatever has the nature to arise also has the nature to cease.”
A note that might potentially be deleted: The Dhamma is offered free to all and this series is no exception. It is available on for no charge but the tedious, time-consuming effort in finding,downloading and organizing each talk does not seem worth the trouble when you can get it on audible for one credit (it's $120 or more if you buy it elsewhere).

Yes. Practical explanations of how consciousness arises, along with the consciousness of dukka. Walks you through being mindful of the whole thing.
I would listen again. Too much to absorb in one listen.
Joseph presented complex philosophical thought in a very practical way. Numerous examples of how to apply to everyday life.
