Katrina Lantos Swett discusses her role as President and CEO of the Lantos Foundation for Human Rights and Justice. Swett talks about her father, the late Rep. Tom Lantos (D-CA) and his contributions as founder of the Congressional Human Rights Caucus, now renamed the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission.

She tells the story of how her mother Annette and her father escaped German labor camps with assistance from Swedish diplomat Raoul Wallenburg. Her parents then came to the United States from Hungary. She relates her concerns over the current leadership in Russia pulling the country away from democracy, and shares her admiration for the Dalai Lama and his contributions to human rights.

She talks about her husband Richard Swett’s service as Ambassador to Denmark from 1998 to 2001, and member of Congress from New Hampshire’s 2nd district for two terms in 1990. She discusses raising seven children, graduating from Yale University, and her conversion to Mormonism. [Broadcast Date: April 15, 2012]
