Publisher's Summary

After a violent civil war and the devastation wrought by the now-fallen Darth Caedus, the Galactic Alliance is in crisis and in need. From all corners, politicians, power brokers, and military leaders converge on Coruscant for a crucial summit to restore order, negotiate differences, and determine the future of their unified worlds. But even more critical, and far more uncertain, is the future of the Jedi.

In a shocking move, Chief of State Natasi Daala orders the arrest of Luke Skywalker for failing to prevent Jacen Solo's turn to the dark side and his subsequent reign of terror as a Sith Lord. But it's only the first blow in an anti-Jedi backlash fueled by a hostile government and suspicious public. When Jedi Knight Valin Horn, scion of a politically influential family, suffers a mysterious psychotic break and becomes a dangerous fugitive, the Jedi become the target of a media-driven witch hunt. Facing conviction on the damning charges, Luke must strike a bargain with the calculating Daala: his freedom in exchange for his exile from Coruscant and from the Jedi Order.

Though forbidden to intervene in Jedi affairs, Luke is determined to keep history from being repeated. With his son, Ben, at his side, Luke sets out to unravel the shocking truth behind Jacen Solo's corruption and downfall. But the secrets he uncovers among the enigmatic Force mystics of the distant world Dorin may bring his quest and life as he knows it to a sudden end. And all the while, another Jedi Knight, consumed by the same madness as Valin Horn, is headed for Coruscant on a fearsome mission that could doom the Jedi Order and devastate the entire galaxy.

"This Series has Potential, but off to a slow start"

This was definitely not one of my favorite books from the Star Wars Expanded Universe. It picks up where the Legacy of the Force series left off and Jacen Solo's betrayal to the Jedi Order will obviously have repercussions for the future of the Jedi and it's Grand Master Luke Skywalker. I won't give away any spoilers, but "Outcast" seems more like a setup book for a more elaborate plot in the series than a grand adventure itself. Unfortunately this book does not stand alone on its own accord. It will be interesting to see how this series plays out. I sure hope that the rest of the authors aren't as obsessed about Coffee, or 'caf' as its known in the Star Wars universe. I got tired of hearing about every character, either NOT having their morning caf or needing some caf, or going to get caf, or offering another character caf. It got old, REALLY QUICK, but unfortunately continued throughout the book. Overall, the book was average ~ not great, and not bad either, but the series has potential.

    "Great star wars story"

This is a great story, and the way is narrated make you think you are actually seeing all the characters from the movie.

    I like it a lot!

"Star Wars books worth the Price"

I truly am a big Star Wars fan. These books being read to me is like watching a new movie when a book comes out. Fate of Jedi is the same. This is suppose to be a nine book series. I am waiting for the third book already.
The Star Wars books on Audible is enough for me to keep with Audible.

"Great start to a new series"

If they ever think about making movies out of another series in the Star Wars universe this may be the one to choose. Bottom line, narration is great, sound effects add depth, and storyline kept my interest from beginning to end. I am looking forward to listening to Outcast.

    "A guilty pleasure!!"

As you might guess this is not a deep, multi-layered story that you would discuss in an English literature course. It's light-hearted and fairly predictable. That having been said, if you are even a casual Star Wars fan, you MUST buy this audio book NOW! I don't think I would have enjoyed it half as much in paper form. The music and voice/sound effects add SO much. It's almost a star wars film in audio format. Much has transpired between the last film and where this one starts. But if like me, you've never read a Stars Wars book, you'll be up to speed with what has happened in the universe fairly quickly. It almost seems they are going overboard to make the story user-friendly to the cinema-only crowd. There are plenty of throw-backs to the films that you will wax nostalgic over.

Like a film, you will feel the "cutscene" moments (complete with sound transitions) where it tracks what is happening at different places. My only complaint is that the planet Kessel part of the story is completely uninteresting and adds nothing to the overall story. Fortunately, it's not a huge part of the reading time.

On a side note, the news anchor that sounded like Dana Carvey impersonating Tom Brokaw cracked me up!

"Get you hanging for the next"

As a not so 'read' Star Wars fan, the story starts quite a while after the 'Return of the Jedi'. Nevertheless it's quite an engaging story. Marc Thompson is a great narrator. The fate of the jedi series gives us a glimpse of what happened in the past. It tells us of the new threats and allies. As the first of the series it's obviously only the start of more things to come. I am looking forward to more jedi adventures and new planets .. with old and new foes and friends.

    "Good start to new series"

Glad to finally see unabridged books from star wars. Would love to see them go back and redo all the abridged books and make unabridged versions. This is a good start to the series and another great job by Marc Thompson.
