Mile 81 meets "N." in this collaboration between Stephen King and Joe Hill.
As USA Today said of Stephen King's Mile 81: "Park and scream. Could there be any better place to set a horror story than an abandoned rest stop?" In the Tall Grass begins with a sister and brother who pull off to the side of the road after hearing a young boy crying for help from beyond the tall grass. Within minutes they are disoriented, in deeper than seems possible, and they've lost one another. The boy's cries are more and more desperate. What follows is a terrifying, entertaining, and masterfully told tale, as only Stephen King and Joe Hill can deliver.

"More King than Hill, more gross than scary"
Mixed, complicated feelings about this after listening.
We picked this up for a little Halloween road trip being huge fans of Joe Hill and having really enjoyed King's last few books.
And the beginning of this story is so, so, creepy. And wonderfully narrated.
When the explanation for what's in the grass comes, though, the story veers into King territory pretty hardcore. It's violent and disturbing and much more "The Regulators"-era King than "Nightmares and Dreamscapes," with a little too much "Dreamcatcher" in there. Yuck.
We don't regret the experience and it IS well written and wonderfully read, but know what you're getting into. We'd been hoping it would be a little more ofa Joe Hill story, but it is wonderful to see the two of them writing together.
Im awesome at listening to books.....your welcome world.
"Absolutly disgusting. Emotion provoking. Brilliant"
of the 160 audio books i have listened to. This one made me proclaim out loud , almost screaming. "OH MY GOD !...........OH MY GOD......NO effing WAY" This will be the most crazy thing you have ever heard. I promise. Damn!
"almost"
maybe if they spent more time on the second half of the story would have been nice,it's like they had a good story but they didn't have a ending but they did it anyway,O-lets throw in something really sick maybe they won't notes the ending. don't spend the money if you already did turn it off half-way thew .Stephen Lang is great, but you can only do so much with a bad story,,
"Ehh... so so"
No. I had an overall distaste for this story. The characters went against human nature and there was some very distasteful content. I suspect that was part of the point, but I didn't find it so much disturbing as just a little pointless.
I don't give spoilers, but there was content that I think was meant to be disturbing, but was more just pointless.
No, never. Glad it wasn't a novel, I wouldn't have gotten far.
I am usually a fan of Steven King, but this one I really felt I wasted my time on. It was a bit of a shock, because I don't think I've ever said that about the books I've read or listened to. The performance was fine, it was the material.
Audible, take me away!
"Boo....."
So not worth the $7! Bad even for a short story. Narrator was ok, story was a little gory (which i like) but too predictable and boring.
"Don't go in the grass!"
This was a great "edge of your seat" story, that keeps you thinking about it long after you've read it. The narrator does a great job of keeping the suspense high.
I enjoyed it and would recommend it.

"Subpar King & Hill"
The Story:
Twin twenty somethings, on a trip out west, hear a voice in some tall grass and wade out into it to help only to find themselves wading into a new kind of horror.
What starts with a lot of potential is a story that isn't just half baked but hardly baked at all. It feels as if father and son traded chapters trying to outdo one another other and ended up stumbling over each other. There's set-up for some interesting potential in the first quarter, even when they first move into the grass. A complicated eb and flow, a life, to the grass is long left in the dust for horrific elements that are hollow and fall flat. There's gore and disturbing moments, if that's all you're looking for, but they don't mean anything. I stopped caring about the two main protagonists shortly after they were in the grass when I realized there wasn't much to the story. These two authors are much better than this, too bad.
The Narrator:
Mr. Lang does a great job holding the pieces together here. The characters are well drawn and their voices are quite distinct. I feel like he's a bit out of his element here but this might just be fron the writing.
The Sum:
If you want a couple of moments of shallow horrific moments, you'll find them here. On the whole there's not much here to sink your teeth into or to feel scared about. This is more of a waste of time.
"Hated It!"
I understand it's a short story but I felt the ending was just unsatisfying. It felt rushed and incomplete.
I might check out S.K.'s other short story ... "A Face In the Crowd."
He was ok. I had no problem with his performance.
Primarily disappointment, some disgust at the vulgarity. I felt it did not enhance the story or even help the reader experience the horror of the character's circumstances.
Save you credit/money. This was not worth the $4+ I paid.
"An Excuse to Write Together"
I love Stephen King. It was his books that first got me to love reading, but this was not one of his better efforts. The concept of the story was interesting, but in the end it's just a gross-out shocker that turns out just to be gross. It's like King really wanted to do "something" with his son, and so they just cranked this out in an afternoon.
Oh sure.
The narrator was just fine.
Eating aborted fetuses is about as yuck as you can get.
"just plain awful"
Its a great concept, just a very poor story. Worst king ever. and im a huge king fan.
Clancey
narration was fine, just a very poor story
no
Im shocked that king wrote this. I have read/listened to all of kings works. 11-22-63 is one of my top 5 books of all time. I love the dark tower and many others. this is just poor.
