After a massacre decimates half his team and leaves him crippled, Jaxon Law must relearn how to fight-and battle the anger and guilt threatening to overwhelm him. But when he rescues a beautiful woman who awakens his primal instincts, Jax is unprepared for the dangers that lie ahead.
On the run from her employer, brilliant lab assistant Kira Locke has evidence that leads the Alpha Pack on a hunt for someone targeting human civilians with Psy abilities. And as Jax and Kira circle both the killer and each other, Jax will have to decide if the deep connection he feels with Kira is worth breaking the ultimate shifter rule-because bonding with Kira means putting his abilities at risk, and they might be the only tools he has to keep his mate alive.

"WOW!! REALLY GREAT START TO A FANTASTIC NEW SERIES"
This book has everything, ex Navy Seal were-men with supernatural 'gifts', genetic experiments, shape shifters, bad guys, sex and romance. J D Tyler throws more strange characters with weird abilities into the story as it unfolds and they can be brought forward to be part of the story or left in the background for another book. It reminded me of JR Ward's BlackDagger Brotherhood or Gena Showalter's Lords of the Underworld. So if you loved them then you will love this new series I am sure.
The narrator did a good job too.
These books are going to be an automatic download for me, now I just have to be patient and wait but it could end up a series of at least 7 or much more mmmmm delicious.

"Unsatisfying Ending"
As the title suggests, this is the beginning of a series. While an incomplete story is expected, I find most authors find a way to give the ending a sense of completion while still enticing the reader to continue with the series. This one lacked a sense of completion. It might as well have had "To Be Continued..." at the end. Also, I usually like a little sex thrown in with a story, but I found these sex scenes tiresome and unexciting. Fortunately, the overall story had just enough interest to it that I think I may buy the next in the series--though with some hesitation. The slightly better reviews for the second release are enticing me. The narrator did a nice job. It kind of cracked me up that she used such a serious voice. Talking about shape shifters and secret government experiments is serious business, people! It didn't take me long to get over that and just to get into the fun of it, and she definitely brought the characters to life. If you've never read/listened to other shape shifter fiction, there are better options for a newbee. If you listen to audible books a whole lot and are exhausting your options, this is not a bad choice.
This is a terrific series, and a good twist on typical shifters. J D Tyler has a couple of more books in print with more in the pipeline. I hope there isn't' a long wait for the rest. Kalen blossoms but is in for a surprise, but that's all I'm gona say. There are more twists and turns to come. Kirsten Potter doesn't disappoint and portrays the guys and their banter really well. I hope she does the rest of the series - soooooon!
"Great Start Need more"
For the first book in the series this was great a little love sex and action. Has a good ending and a great setup for the serise. I'm looking forward to each team member finding there mates and wins the war.
"Mixed feelings"
Probably not. The sex in this book had me wishing they would just finish so the story could continue. I'll have to find a book that doesn't go so overboard.
I like the subject but the sex episodes were too explicit for my taste.
Kira
I enjoy books about shapeshifters and mythical beings. This book was interesting and would I would have enjoyed more story and less sex.
I used to be an avid reader of Romance novels. I usually preferred the Harlequin & Silhouette series''. I would read several books a day over the summer and several a week during school months. I took a long break as an adult but have gotten back to it this year and am very much enjoying my Audible experience. So far I still really like general Romance but have found a real unexpected joy in Supernatural & Paranormal Romances.
"A shame there aren't more in the series..."
I'd like to see more of this series here. This was a good beginning and though the story between this particular male and female was well settled in the end, there was much more storyline hinted at that didn't get wrapped up. Of course, that's the point of a first book in a series.
Unfortunately I looked on Amazon and there is one other book and a novella out now and another book due out later this year. So it'd be great to see those on here.
Kristen Potter was a decent narrator for this book. If I had to find a complaint with her, it would be the lack of separate voices for each character. That's not a requirement for me, but it does add something to the story.
I'd recommend this book, but if you're the type who doesn't want to wait for the next book in the series, you might want to put it on your wishlist and hold off.
"Great New Series"
Most likely. I enjoyed the book enough to listen again. Not all books are worthy of a second listen. Also, I thought Kristen Potter did a really good job with the narration.
When Jaxon is hurt and very weak from not mating. It was so memorable because of Kira's reaction. It was extremely sad and I couldn't help but cry. Another memorable moment was when Jaxon and Kira released they love each other.
When ChurpChurp (?) was sleeping on Kira's stomach, Jaxon came across them. In that scene, he knew he loved her. Also liked how he became close to ChurpChurp.
Yes, made be laugh and cry.
"Leaves you hanging, must get next to continue"
I was enjoying the book, but it didn't end. The next book is like the next chapter, and I hate when they force it on you. Lucky the next was available just a few days after I finished first. After I finished the second, found the same ploy in place. Found I no longer cared to see how it ends. Not a bad story, but got bored with the same stuff.
"Great New Shifter Story!"
I've been listening to more vampire stories lately but this shifter story caught my eye via searching for Kirsten Potter. She is my second fav narrator (Marguerite Gavin is my all-time FAVORITE storyteller) and this sounded interesting.
The story starts out with intrigue, conflict and red hot wolf rescue of the damsel in distress. I was hooked within five minutes. This take-the-scenic-route-home story kept me interested until the very last minute. The world and character building are thoroughly entertaining. The secondary characters in the Alpha Pack have great personalities and I hope Sariel's story is next! Jax and Kira are a couple I enjoyed getting to know as people and as wolves, and their sex life? Sign me up! I will definitely be looking for the remainder of the books in this series and downloading asap.
"LOVED IT!!"
