Publisher's Summary

This Time Together is 100 percent Carol Burnett: funny, irreverent, and irresistible.

Carol Burnett is one of the most beloved and revered actresses and performers in America. The Carol Burnett Show was seen each week by millions of adoring fans and won 25 Emmys in its remarkable 11-year run. Now, in This Time Together, Carol really lets her hair down and tells one funny or touching or memorable story after another. Listening to it feels like sitting down with an old friend who has wonderful tales to tell.

In engaging anecdotes, Carol discusses her remarkable friendships with such stars as Jimmy Stewart, Lucille Ball, Cary Grant, and Julie Andrews; the background behind famous scenes, like the moment she swept down the stairs in her curtain-rod dress in the legendary "Went With the Wind" skit; and things that would happen only to Carol. Those include the prank with Julie Andrews that went wrong in front of the First Lady; the famous Tarzan Yell that saved her during a mugging; and the time she faked a wooden leg to get served in a famous ice-cream emporium. This poignant look back allows us to cry with the actress during her sorrows, rejoice in her successes, and finally, always, to laugh.

    "Do not listen while driving"

One of the best books I've ever listened to, but I don't recommend listening while driving though. I laughed and cried so hard it was hard to pay attention to what I was doing. GREAT BOOK!

    "Laughter is the best medicine!"

    Dear Audible Reader,
Please read this book! You will agree, I'm sure, that it was completely worth it. Carol IS comedy. The things they do in comedy skits, she did in real life. What a joy to hear her read this herself. I wish it were longer, the time just flew by! What a wonderful woman, comedian and mother. Thank you Carol, for giving us this book...what a wonderful gift!

    "Wonderfully Entertaining!"

This book was very enjoyable to listen to. It could only be done right with Carol herself reading it, and she does not disappoint. Funny insights, stories, and reflections. A very classy lady with a plethera of Hollywood history just waiting to be shared. Well worth the credits.

I'm on my 315th audiobook since 2007. I only discovered Audible in 2010 and I find it's a great way to manage my audiobook budget.

    "So Amazing"

Carol Burnett has lived an amazing life. She has intimately known so many that have become historic and classic film and television personalities. Her variety show can still make you laugh so hard your face hurts. This audiobook, read by Carol herself, tells the story of her journey from a poor non-working actress and singer to the most successful comedic variety show on television. There are times I was laughing out loud and times I was crying without shame, all while feeling I was sitting on the couch across from Carol listening to her story. Buy this book. Don't forget the Kleenex!

"Like chatting with an old friend"

Carol Burnett tells some hilarious and some heartbreaking stories. Her style is comfortable and it really felt like I was simply hearing an old friend tell stories. I enjoyed it enough to listen to it again.

Carol talks mostly about the stars she has come across during her career, sprinkled with some family. It is great to hear about such talented stars and her career.

"Have loved CB but very disappointed!"
What would have made This Time Together better?

The stories were too sweet and chummy and not very funny. Ms Burnett's narration was strangely off kilter - her voice went higher at just the wrong moments. For a dramatic actress, she was a very sing-song, ineffective reader. The stories were too tame. If you were not a Carol Burnett Show viewer with memories of the actors she worked with, you will probably not find these stories very interesting. The only redeeming factor is that Carol Burnett is so NICE! And that comes through. But honestly, if we hadn't been on a long car trip with few other options, we never would have listened to the whole thing (and my husband usually likes

    "Anecdotes"

It's a bunch of short (2-7 minutes) anecdotes in chronological order. Overall the book is superficial and indulgent with all the celebrity stories. It wasn't drudgery, but it wasn't engrossing and rewarding either.

"A trip down TV memory lane."

This was a very enjoyable book. It is composed mainly of funny anecdotes from her early days and throughout her variety show. There are however several emotionally moving stories, specifically those dealing with her childhood, growing up with her grandmother and the loss of her daughter. Reading this book brought back many memories from my childhood. I spent many a Saturday night watching the Carol Burnett show. Who can forget Carol, Harvey Korman & Vicky Lawrence and how they would all crack up on camera at Tim Conway, though I haven’t seen the show in years, I remember many of the sketches she mentions. Especially the “Gone with the Wind” sketch. If you were a kid from the 70’s like me, before the days of cable and satellite TV then you probably seen spent Saturday night with her too. I have no doubt you enjoy reading this just as much as I did.
