Nor did Queen suspect that he would penetrate the gang so successfully that he would become a fully "patched-in" member, eventually rising through their ranks to the office of treasurer, where he had unprecedented access to evidence of their criminal activity. After Queen spent 28 months as "Billy St. John", the bearded, beer-swilling, Harley-riding gang-banger, the truth of his identity became blurry, even to himself.

"This harrowing, turbocharged account of undercover life is reminiscent of Joseph D. Pistone's Donnie Brasco." (Publishers Weekly)
"Remarkable not only for its cliff-hanging moments but also for the perceptive observations of gangster culture." (Booklist)
"terrific"
kept me interested all the way. the author/reader was couragous and passionate in his reading. a wonderful find.
"Exciting and Sad"
I enjoyed this book very much. I had heard Mr. Queen's interview with Terry Gross on Fresh Air and was excited to see that it had made it to Audible. I thought it was amazing what an under cover agent was willing to sacrifice and to put his life on the line. It was also sad to see how little respect some people have for human life. Could not wait to see what would happen next!!
"I can't go out today. Really sorry." translation, "I just found a book that I can't pass by."
"Get On the Reading"
Brilliant narration. Loved his passion and enthusiasm in both narrations and writing. The story is extremely intriguing and held my interest all the way, perhaps I myself have some connections to gangs, though not a motorcycle one.
For me, this book held my interest for several levels. I thought it gave both sides of life in a gang. It's definitely good that Queen talked about how some people could be so cruel, but it was also great that he also spoke of how in the gang itself, there is a genuine since of family. The members would go to great length to protect their own, even though it often required violence.
I'm not saying that gangs are good and should insist to continue their infliction of pain and terror. However, I think everyone should know that no matter how bad a person is, whatever deceptions they made, there is bound to be a bit of good under all that. Likewise, even the best person also have a dark streak way under. Humans, I think, are one of or the only species that is capable of good and the most intense cruelty, as shown here.
"Thoroughly enjoyed Under and Alone"
I liked having William Queen reading the book to me, it gave the book a deeper dimension.
Probably yes
No Hells Angel
I wish the book was longer, but thats typical when you enjoy a good story. I also thought that the book was missing something between chapters 5 and 6. All in all, I enjoyed the book and thank William Queen for telling us his account.
"OUTSTANDING"
My wife and I listened to this book on an 8hr roadtrip...we started it late and stopped it a couple of times...so when we got home we had 15min left...So we sat in the car to finish it...ha....You won't be dissapointed...Narration is great too and that does make a difference...
"Excellent Read"
This is by far one of the best books I've listened to in quite some time. Being read by the author who actually experienced the story as it unfolds creates a unique sense of realism.
"Hard to stop listening"
Outstanding book. I first heard of William Queen when he was interviewed on the G. Gordon Liddy show. I was intrigued by the sacrifice he made and what it cost him. I had to read the book. I did and enjoyed it. It is well written, well read, and makes you feel like you were there.
"Engrossing book"
I found this autobiographical account very engrossing and finished it in a couple of listens.
The book is narrated by its author who adds an extra layer of realism to this fascinating story.
I'd recommend it to anyone who enjoys the History or Discovery channels.
Worthwhile.
"Brave, brave man!"
This was absolutlely awesome in the way it was delivered. You felt at times that you were there. William Queen's choice to voice this audio himself was the right one, and I can't say that about everybody. You feel close to the character and, even though it was harrowing at times, I was sad when it ended. Cracking good listen if you ask me!
