The Cat in the Hat and Other Dr. Seuss Favorites

We downloaded this for a Thanksgiving week 1600 mile road trip with a four and two year old. I thought they wouldn't enjoy the stories without the pictures in front of them, but they couldn't get enough. Definitely helped to fill the time, and entertained the adults enough, too.

No, it's not a substitute for the books with pictures, but definitely worth it for travel. Also a good value for the number of books on this program.

Contrary to what a previous reviewer said, the individual books all have chapter markers so you can jump directly to a particular book if you know the chapter number.

I bought this audiobook for a car trip to disney, but ended up using it daily. There are enough stories to keep them interested and the length is perfect for the longer errands around town.

I bought this (these) book(s) for ME! Used to read them to my children when they were younger than my grandchildren are now. Dr. Seuss is the Man! Good listening for all ages. You can't grow up until you understand all the messages he presents to be a better human being. I still listen...what fun is growing up anyway?!

My boys (aged 2 and 5) love this book. The characterizations that the different actors give make them want to listen to it over and over. They love listening to it while they are playing, laying down, and in the car. They've got some of it memorized because of the actors. They love it.

My kids get car sick if they don't look out the window from time to time (it's Karma coming back to get me for all the times I threw up in my dad's car) so we have banned movies in the car. This is a great alternative. It keeps the kids entertained while allowing them to share their attention with the outside environment. Thus reducing the chances of vomit in the car which makes us all happy. It's a win for everyone.

Each of my three kids, ages ranging from 2 to 8 years old, enjoy listening and have their favorite stories. They even request to listen to it while we are home and eating lunch, or coloring, or even cleaning their rooms (which is a very painful ordeal made a little less painful by the distraction of a story).

My five year old loves to listen to The Cat in the Hat and has even memorized portions of it so when we read it at night she can follow along with me and can even recognize words. I believe it has helped her to better understand the concept of sounding out words.

At first I was concerned that some of the performances may be a little too dry to keep my kids entertained but I quickly saw that they were captivated by each narrator. It was fun for me as well to hear familiar actors telling the stories I grew up reading. I would definitely recommend this audiobook to anyone.

The source material is unquestionably good; the readings are *mostly* very good; the music is intrusive, superfluous, and frankly, grating. Dustin Hoffman is the best of the bunch, showing incredible class and demonstrating that he is an Actor (capital A) even when reading "Horton Hears a Who". Not bad for a car trip, but you'll miss the pictures.

It goes without saying the books are great but I don't care for the format. My son is four and knows which book he wants to hear. This format does not allow you to skip to a specific book.

Why spoil great reading and a wonderful book with loud silly music throughout? Someone has been watching too much bad video. Dr. Seuss did not write this with background music.

My Daughter loves this in the car - keeps her quiet on long trips and therefore worth every cent.
Some of the stories are very well read by great readers.
