"Horrible recording quality"
The sound quality of this recording is horrible. Its all mid-range with no lows or highs. I had to turn the treble way up and the bass down to be able to make out the words without straining. You'd think they would put more time into this. Sorry Peter.
"The backstory we needed for Riker and Troi!"
Yes, because I love the franchise and any chance to further the journey, I'm there.
Jonathan Frakes did a great job narrating the story based on his character, Will Riker.
You get to hear the actual voice of Riker and that really enhances the enjoyment of this audiobook.
While I wasn't quite moved to tears, I was quite moved at the conclusion of the book. I did however, laugh several times.
If you ever wanted to know the backstory of how Riker and Troi got together and explain that odd sexual tension they had on the show and but were never really told why, "Imzadi" finally answers that and other questions. Some great cameos include Deanna's mother, Lwaxana, and a nice appearance by an older Wesley Crusher that will make you cheer. I won't spoil the surprise, but let's just say, when he was introduced, I was like, "Yea, that's cool. Good for Wes!" Wonderfully read by Jonathan Frakes, this is a true treat for all Star Trek the Next Generation fans.
"CHEESE!"
I love Star Trek - but this is far from the classic imaginative and adventurous stories I like -
If I knew it was a super cheesy romance I would not have bought it.
"....young lovers in the jungle...." !!! lol
.... the sound quality is disappointing as well.
"Boring beyond anything"
I was being kind when I gave this two stars. I love Star Trek, really like Jonathan Frakes as an actor, and am a fan of the whole romance between the characters of Will and Deanna. I don't usually care for Star Trek novels, but since I knew this particular title had a bit of a reputation as a fan favourite, I thought I would give it a go. Sorry. It is a silly, turgid story, the cuts don't help, and Mr Frakes doesn't do a great job of the reading. I tried to like it, but I couldn't get more than half way through before I gave up. Personally I would only recommend you buy it if you are a Star Trek completist, or you know you like the book.
"Great book!"
Peter David masterfully merges a romance with a science fiction novel. Highly recommended for fans of Star Trek and/or romance novels! It was very moving and was one of those books you can't put away until you are done.
