From wonderful storyteller and author of the best-selling phenomenon The Christmas Box, a new holiday novel based on the story of Joseph and the coat of many colors.
Joe is forced out of the family business by his jealous siblings. Moving on to another company, he soon becomes chief advisor to the CEO. But when the economy turns, Joe's siblings need his help to save the family business.
Based on the Old Testament story about Joseph and the coat of many colors and including a love story, A Winter Dream can be embraced for its message of forgiveness by believers and nonbelievers alike.

"the profiler" I love a great book more than almost anything (thanks to my mom who read books to the four of us at bedtime every night; no TV either). Also, I read one magazine monthly that's out of my usual zone, which has greatly broadened my knowledge & interest, bookwise, etc.
"Full of heart, emotional depth & wisdom"
Yes, definitely. Forgiveness & the refusal to give in to self-pity (even when it feels justified) are at the core of this story about a guy, Joseph (JJ), the 12th kid of 13 - only one sister in the bunch too - who works w/all of his siblings at their father's successful ad agency in CO. JJ's not only the Dad's favorite (which the father ignorantly makes clear, thus setting up the dynamic where some of the brothers, who also have four different mothers amongst them, get terribly jealous of JJ - to the point of kicking JJ out of the agency). JJ's sort of like the 'hero' figure who leaves, or is kicked out of everything he's familiar with. Issues of abandonment, learning how to know who loves you vs. who doesn't, and other challenges teach JJ important lessons. And fortunately, this book is written with good pacing, interesting plot line, and best of all, touches your heart too -- all the while dealing w/universal themes we all deal with from time to time: jealous siblings who treat you terribly, bosses who misuse their power b/c they really lack it inside, the importance of getting to see people past their surface looks and/or gripes, forgiveness, and refusing, no matter what, to let yourself fall into any kind of habitual response to such challenges with self-pity, bitterness, or anything like that, not for long anyway. It's ultimately a story that everyone can relate to, with a tone of encouragement and the acknowledgment that, yes life is hard sometimes but that's no excuse for letting yourself adopt a victimhood mentality. Perfect for those times when you feel overwhelmed with life and just want a well-written/delivered story that feels like a warm hug.
No because then it'd be over with too fast. This is the kind of story you want to sip 'n' savor.
I might read this again, for those days when I feel that existential aloneness.
"Inspirational!"
I loved listening to this book! A quaint story about how one man's dreams inspire reality.
"Great contemporary reselling of the Joseph story!"
A WINTER DREAM is a modern parable based on the Biblical story of Joseph and his family. In this story, Joseph's father is a Vietnam war hero who now runs a very successful advertising agency in Colorado.
When Joseph comes up with a winning slogan for a bank campaign, his father's congratulations and pride lead him to pass on his Vietnam's bomber jacket to Joseph rather than the eldest son. This becomes the last straw for his older brothers.
This creative re telling continues, with the addition of an intriguing love interest who further complicates Joseph's life. As in the Biblical story, love, loyalty and forgiveness are the basis of life changing events for everyone. Excellently repurposed story for today's readers!!
"I couldn't stop listening"
I may have just found a new favorite author. This is the first book I have real written by Evans. I plan to read all his others.
This book is a modern story of a popular Bible story.
The letter that the father wrote to his son, Joseph, was very meaningful to me.
"It was an excellent read."
Yes I would recommend this book to anyone who asked me.
I have read too many other books since then .

"Reading Mr. Evans Books is a Holiday Tradition"
Each holiday I look forward to reading one of Mr. Evans novels. This year's is a retelling of Joseph being sold in to Egypt. While some of the small details seemed to be a bit of a reach, the overall integrity of the story holds up. I found myself very touched by the treatment of the relationship between the main character and his beloved Father. I had never thought of this story from the point-of-view of Jacob -- and reading this book sent me right back to the original text in The Old Testament. I hope this little holiday tradition continues long into the future.

Not that I can remember.
Probably each of them at different times - only because I feel everyone at one time or another finds themselves experiencing similar situations ( falling on either side.)
