Publisher's Summary

What if you could cultivate the mind of a bodhisattva -- one who has dedicated one's life to the benefit of others? According to Pema Chödrön, best-selling author and American-born Buddhist nun, you can. On Bodhisattva Mind, she examines sheshin, or "guarding alertness", and the other qualities of mind we need to develop on the path to enlightenment. "We all have a consciousness that knows what helps and what causes harm," says Ani Pema. "With this same ability, we can 'tame our minds', and extricate ourselves from suffering."

A practicum of insights and meditations from this cherished teacher, Bodhisattva Mind shows us how to connect with the spacious, clear, unbiased nature of our minds and experience the joy of complete freedom.

    "First Understanding of Buddhism"

This recording was my first introduction to Buddhism. Pema Chodron is the best first teacher anyone could ask for. Her explanations are simple yet deep and based on experiences that I could relate to. She is funny and easy to listen to. I'm now listening to this recording for the second time.
I took a Mediation 101 class last month and this is the perect next step in my practice. I highly recommend it and plan to listen to more of Pema Chodron's other works.

Pema's recent teachings based on Shantideva have been really useful to me, and are profoundly relevant to this time.

"lots of people vote and don't write reviews"

Some doo-dah down below in the reviews said obviously the publisher posted reviews to prop up this work. I don't write reviews often because I am too busy and other people have said what I would have written already. But I do vote. This book is about seeing yourself the way you resist seeing yourself and seeing others with a new-found compassion because of it. It is about our willingness to see the speck in another's eye while ignoring our own log in the eye. And it offers hope and love as the rewards for our efforts. It is my favorite Pema work though I love everything I have heard by her - probably all her audiobooks. I do audios as my eyes are not so good anymore, must have been all those logs :-D , and I drive an hour a day to my job which is the perfect listening time for this work - get ready to see things differently before work and process before I get home. God bless Pema and her work.

    "Wonderful!"

Pema is insightful and humorous, breathing life and understanding into what at first glace seems like dry material. The teachings on being a source of joy and compassion while staying in contact with your humility and modesty are profound in our increasingly shallow modern age.

As for the techniques for developing these qualities, eradicating misery and pain by not creating any anew or reacting to any is logical to even the most scientific mind. I can tell you from personal experience that although it is difficult at first, these methods do actually work and do not require any belief in Buddhism or religion. She proves that instead of the axiom "Beauty is skin deep" it should read "Surface beuty is skin deep- but real beauty radiates from within."

This book helped me push away post-partum depression and bring true happiness back into my life for the first time in fifteen years. I would recommend it to anyone at any stage of life.

    "Life changing"

I thought life had no manual. I was wrong.
Already I was interested in Buddhism and Taoism. This audiobook deepens it. Very practical, but not in a shallow way.
I'm aware: just listening is not enough; there is work to be done :-) Though listening might be the beginning.

"So useful for those on the Bodhisattva path"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I'd only recommend this book to those who are seriously studying the Bodhisattva path. There's a lot of detail in this teaching that is meant to illuminate our path and the vows we take.

Many of Pema's teachings are useful for all paths, but this one is specific to those who study and practice as Bodhisattvas.

    "Bodhisattva mind."

While a novice student and practitioner of Buddhism, I am a huge fan of Pema Chodron. I found her commentary on this classic Buddhist text outstanding and accessible. I also read and re-read (I imagine I will read many more times in the future) her book "No Time to Lose" in which the audio is based.

    "Amazing !"
Would you listen to Bodhisattva Mind again? Why?

Yes I would listen to it again, and will. It is packed with so much helpful information and is helping in my path to mindfulness & spriritual discovery.

What about Pema Chodron’s performance did you like?

I love the way it is presented in such an accessible way. Ani Pema's humor and approachability makes this so easy to listen to.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

It was hard to "put down"
