Anthony Spencer is egotistical, proud of being a self-made business success at the peak of his game, even though the cost of winning was painfully high. A cerebral hemorrhage leaves Tony comatose in a hospital ICU. He 'awakens' to find himself in a surreal world, a 'living' landscape that mirrors dimensions of his earthly life, from the beautiful to the corrupt. It is here that he has vivid interactions with others he assumes are projections of his own subconscious, but whose directions he follows nonetheless with the possibility that they might lead to authenticity and perhaps, redemption. The adventure draws Tony into deep relational entanglements where he is able to 'see' through the literal eyes and experiences of others, but is "blind" to the consequences of hiding his personal agenda and loss that emerge to war against the processes of healing and trust. Will this unexpected coalescing of events cause Tony to examine his life and realize he built a house of cards on the poisoned grounds of a broken heart? Will he also have the courage to make a critical choice that can undo a major injustice he set in motion before falling into a coma?

"Blind read, and my outlook on life is changed"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?Not only would I but before I even got through a quarter of this book i was almost begging my mother in law to read it.
Who was your favorite character and why?So many...sooo many! My mind immediately jumps to Grandmother. Yet I'd have to say my favorite is Maggie! Great sense of humor.
Which scene was your favorite?The tomb! Thats all I'm gonna say. Powerful and emotional.
Who was the most memorable character of Cross Roads and why?Tony, I can some what relate to him.
Any additional comments?What a world shaker! The foundation of my life has shifted because of this book. I cannot thank the author and the narrator enough for allowing me to be a part of Tonys world. I am a melody!

"life path challenges explored"
Being at across road myself, I downloaded this book based on the reviews written by other audible listeners and was not disappointed with the emotionally intelligent way Wm.Paul Young paints the unravelling of Tony's psyche as he makes the journey toward his own demise. There are philosophical, psychological, social, moral and spiritual confrontations all the way. I was seeking a read like this to accompany my own inner reflections at a time of upheaval and change in my own life.
However, as a sceptic of organised religion, I found the domination of Christian religious icons, that is God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit, difficult. The fact that these characters were depicted as ordinary people made it easier, but I just couldn't help thinking that the book would have an even wider appeal if Christianity wasn't so blatantly the dominating guiding spiritual force on this man's journey.7 of 7 people found this review helpful -

If you could take any character from Cross Roads out to dinner, who would it be and why?Jake - I would like to learn about his life and how he came to know Jesus and Grandmother
Any additional comments?This is a really good book - the first part of chapter 5 dealing with community is a great way to see our relationship with God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. Chapter 13 addes some great in-site as well.

"Not The Shack"
I kept getting confused. The story was long and drawn out. Seemed like the author kept mixing The Shack with this story. Maybe using the same narrator was a mistake. Not sure. This story I just couldn't get into. I did not finish it. Very disappointed. I bought it on the merits of his first book.

"Major Disappointment- Nothing like The Shack"
Any additional comments?This book is so much like The Shack and nothing like it at the same thing. Its about a JERK of a guy who as the reader you can't stand so you don't get pulled in. The Shack worked magic because it broke your heart and you cared about the guy. Also it seems to be taking a lot of the same descriptions of things as The Shack even used some of the same words.

"Awesome."
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?I would recommend this book highly. It was every bit as good as The Shack, but not repetitive. Crossroads is its own unique story.
What did you like best about this story?The authors way of making God relatable and real.
Have you listened to any of Roger Mueller’s other performances before? How does this one compare?I have, I heard Roger read The Shack. He did great here too.

"Great Follow-up To The Shack"
If you could sum up Cross Roads in three words, what would they be?Entertaining, Inspirational, Fun
Who was your favorite character and why?Toss between Maggie and Tony - both are so believable
What does Roger Mueller bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?He brings all characters to life, including a boy with down's syndrome in which he kept in a real but dignified manner.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?Definitely. I listened whenever I had any free time, even if only 15 minutes. I loved this book and wished I didn't finish it.
Any additional comments?This story will tickle your funny bone, bring you up, bring you down and overall leave you inspired and hopefully give you a better understanding of God's never ending love and place in your life.

"Not for me ..."
Would you try another book from Wm. Paul Young and/or Roger Mueller?No - I didn't finish this one.
What could Wm. Paul Young have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?I think this book must be aimed at a very Christian target market - not that I am anti-Christian in any way but I found it very tedious and uninteresting. I bought the audiobook to listen to in the car because of the good reviews but struggled through it until the native American (I think?) Jesus made an appearance ….. at that stage I was so bored that my mind kept drifting and I wasn't really concentrating on what was going on.
Would you be willing to try another one of Roger Mueller’s performances?No - I think he used too much expression which I found very irritating and hastened my decision to abandon the book.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Cross Roads?Most of it ...
Any additional comments?I would have given up on the book earlier but kept on hoping that the next chapter would jump back to the 'real' world which to me was a little more interesting than the comatose Tony's subconscious ramblings.
