Publisher's Summary

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen was first published in 1813. The story follows Elizabeth Bennet as she deals with issues of manners, upbringing, moral rightness, education and marriage in her aristocratic society of early 19th century England. Elizabeth is the second eldest of five daughters of a country gentleman living in the fictional town of Meryton in Hertfordshire, not far from London. Though the story's setting is uniquely turn of the 19th century, it remains near the top of lists of 'most loved books' and still receives considerable attention from literary critics. To date, the book has sold some 20 million copies worldwide.

    ""Pride and Prejudices""
If you could sum up Pride and Prejudice in three words, what would they be?

    Pride and Prejudice

What did you like best about this story?

Although it was different time and culture it was relevant to all cultures. We all face and deal with pride and prejudice on a daily basis. Some thinking we are better than others and try to live above our means to fit in. We are so busy thinking others are so beneath us that we don't see just how bad off we really are. It also teaches not to jump to conclusion but to hear the full story first. I started out disliking Darcy and he turned out to be a decent chap. Mrs. Bennett, poor thing! and her daughters, especially Lydia. This was a good family story that let you know that we do not live in a bubble and people are free to choose and make their own decision regardless of what society thinks.

What does Margarite Gavin bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The narration was well-done. Hearing the voices, you could also hear the anger, resentment, stupidity and self-righteousness. Also the cold heart turns warm. Very good reading and narration

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

    Every family has one!

    Any additional comments?

At onset I thought this was going to be another Age of Innocence (boring) but it turned out to be very well written and timely.
