Anthony Spencer is egotistical, proud of being a self-made business success at the peak of his game, even though the cost of winning was painfully high. A cerebral hemorrhage leaves Tony comatose in a hospital ICU. He 'awakens' to find himself in a surreal world, a 'living' landscape that mirrors dimensions of his earthly life, from the beautiful to the corrupt. It is here that he has vivid interactions with others he assumes are projections of his own subconscious, but whose directions he follows nonetheless with the possibility that they might lead to authenticity and perhaps, redemption. The adventure draws Tony into deep relational entanglements where he is able to 'see' through the literal eyes and experiences of others, but is "blind" to the consequences of hiding his personal agenda and loss that emerge to war against the processes of healing and trust. Will this unexpected coalescing of events cause Tony to examine his life and realize he built a house of cards on the poisoned grounds of a broken heart? Will he also have the courage to make a critical choice that can undo a major injustice he set in motion before falling into a coma?

Not only would I but before I even got through a quarter of this book i was almost begging my mother in law to read it.
So many...sooo many! My mind immediately jumps to Grandmother. Yet I'd have to say my favorite is Maggie! Great sense of humor.
The tomb! Thats all I'm gonna say. Powerful and emotional.
Tony, I can some what relate to him.
What a world shaker! The foundation of my life has shifted because of this book. I cannot thank the author and the narrator enough for allowing me to be a part of Tonys world. I am a melody!
Being at across road myself, I downloaded this book based on the reviews written by other audible listeners and was not disappointed with the emotionally intelligent way Wm.Paul Young paints the unravelling of Tony's psyche as he makes the journey toward his own demise. There are philosophical, psychological, social, moral and spiritual confrontations all the way. I was seeking a read like this to accompany my own inner reflections at a time of upheaval and change in my own life.
However, as a sceptic of organised religion, I found the domination of Christian religious icons, that is God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit, difficult. The fact that these characters were depicted as ordinary people made it easier, but I just couldn't help thinking that the book would have an even wider appeal if Christianity wasn't so blatantly the dominating guiding spiritual force on this man's journey.
The gentleman reading the book used great inflection
Tony - I could relate to some of his struggles
Jake - I would like to learn about his life and how he came to know Jesus and Grandmother
This is a really good book - the first part of chapter 5 dealing with community is a great way to see our relationship with God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. Chapter 13 addes some great in-site as well.
Yes. Very interesting way to look at spirituality.
Meeting the Indian woman.
A Spriitual Journey for One Unspiritual Man
I kept getting confused. The story was long and drawn out. Seemed like the author kept mixing The Shack with this story. Maybe using the same narrator was a mistake. Not sure. This story I just couldn't get into. I did not finish it. Very disappointed. I bought it on the merits of his first book.
This book is so much like The Shack and nothing like it at the same thing. Its about a JERK of a guy who as the reader you can't stand so you don't get pulled in. The Shack worked magic because it broke your heart and you cared about the guy. Also it seems to be taking a lot of the same descriptions of things as The Shack even used some of the same words.
I was so excited to read this but it was a huge let down!
Yes, I am sure I missed some details the first time
When he went to his secret room
Great personalization of each of the characters
Take time to look at yourself from outside of yourself
I am a Holy Bible Thumping, God loving, Holy Spirit following Jesus Freak.
I would recommend this book highly. It was every bit as good as The Shack, but not repetitive. Crossroads is its own unique story.
The authors way of making God relatable and real.
I have, I heard Roger read The Shack. He did great here too.
Money and power are figments of our imagination, we are lost without God's love.
God is love. Without God, we are bankrupt.
Entertaining, Inspirational, Fun
Toss between Maggie and Tony - both are so believable
He brings all characters to life, including a boy with down's syndrome in which he kept in a real but dignified manner.
Definitely. I listened whenever I had any free time, even if only 15 minutes. I loved this book and wished I didn't finish it.
This story will tickle your funny bone, bring you up, bring you down and overall leave you inspired and hopefully give you a better understanding of God's never ending love and place in your life.
This is a story of redemption. You work out the past with Tony/Anthony through this book. The reader does a great job! All the different voices and attitudes. If you read/listened to the shack & enjoyed it then you will also enjoy this one. The emotion is so raw that I ened up wiping tears away at times. And I don't cry a lot ever, about anything. Not as sad as the Shack because it's not about a kidnapped, never found lil girl. But just as powerful in so many ways.
I've read this and The Shack as well. I've bought extra copies just to give away. I buy audio books so my husband can enjoy the same books on trips. However, I find my self listen to books now more than music. Man I am getting old. If you read to escape you can listen to escape as well. We listen to audible books on our boat as we fish. It gives us other things to talk aboutthan our mundane ins & outs of each day. It's omething we can do together or apartand still have a common bond, topic, interest.
These books are worth your money. They may even change your life, if you let them.
