Sophie Katz, bestselling mystery writer and amateur sleuth, has just discovered that Anatoly, her sexy Russian P.I boyfriend of six years is actually married to the daughter of a Russian mafia boss. Devastated by his betrayal, Sophie banishes him from their beautiful San Francisco Victorian home.
Desperate to distract their friend and pull her out of her depression, Dena and Marcus spirit Sophie away to Vegas for a "fun filled weekend" at a Sex Toy Trade Show. But bigger trouble awaits in Vegas. Anatoly is there; his beautiful Russian wife is there; and so is a dead body stuffed into a closet. And to make matters worse someone has gone out of their way to implicate Sophie in the murder. Sophie's completely over her head and when a mysterious man offers her help she's tempted to take it. But who is he and whose side is he on? It's also clear that whoever the bad guy is he would have no problem killing Anatoly, and although she may want to kill him herself, no one else is going to hurt Sophie's man.

"Better and Better"
The Sophie Katz mysteries gets better and better. In Vows, Vendetta, and a little Black dress, she sets up her latest novel Vanity, Vengeance and a Weekend in Vegas. Davis does a marvelous job threading the ending of one mystery with the beginning of the next. Another strong suite is her continual rounding out of Sophie’s supporting cast. She allows the characters to grow and develop along with the central mystery. This growth started several novels ago and strongly continues.
In this Novel, the story starts innocently as Sophie consoles herself with her friends in Vegas after she and Anatoly split. Finding out he was - is married was too much. And, then the roller coaster ride starts the free fall. The series is great and you should definitely read this. If you haven’t got caught up on the series, you should go back as do so. This novel doesn’t really give anything away from the early novels so you should be pretty safe.
Sophie Katz is a strong central figure. There is a lot to admire, make you laugh and shake your head. The cast of charters work well together and you probably won’t guess what’s going to happen next. If you like the Stephanie Plum, Scarpetta or Pendergast series, this is a great addition to you reading lists. I highly recommend it and there is a hook to the next installment -- but you'll have to read it to find it.
A gadabout with no room for heavy books, so love the audio ones.
"Not the best in the series"
I love the others, but this one was no where near as entertaining. The narrator changed voices mid character, and more than once pulled my focus from the story to cringe at the reading. This book fell flat.
Always a reader, now a listener as well!
"Why--Because they're funny too!"
Just liking the series, just enough spice to keep it edgy, story enough to keep it interesting, well written to keep me in the story, and the performance by the narrator is spot on!
My third one, and enjoying the characters as developing, evolving and interesting as time is passing....
As long as these elements remain, I will keep listening!
Mother, Wife, Cultural Anthropologist, always a scholar and lover of books!
"An enjoyable read or listen."
This is a good book, though don't try to read them out of order, you'd be lost (particularly in this one). I enjoy this series and look forward to each one.
Love Audible!
"Vintage Sophie"
I'm comparing all of the Sophie Katz mysteries and this is one of the best storylines of the bunch. I also like the progression of the characters.
I don't want to be a spoiler but I love when Sophie makes assumptions before she has all the facts but always ends up in the right place.
Gabra does a fantastic job distinguishing the characters. She gets you to care about them and what's going on in their lives individually and collectively.
I wouldn't
I stumbled onto this series and I eagerly await the next installment. Kyra Davis is a writer that should not be passed on. I could easily see this on TV or in the movies. Not network though, cable.
"OMG!!! She was so whinny"
Yes, I am a fan of this series. this book was not my favorite
Maybe clear the mis-understanding up sooner, and not have her whine the first part of the book. This book for me was painful to get through.
I think the narrator was fine as always. It was this book
Yes, this cast of characters are still some of my favorites
"Boring"
I have no idea who possibly enjoy this book, boring, flat, the characters sound as if they are on tranquilizers...
No....
Her voice was so flat!!! It sounded so monotone
All of them!
For the first time I did not finish a book, I couldn't stand it any longer!
"Enough"
the love affair is taking on the characteristics of totally uninteresting -- the set up for the break up sounds like high school -- the mis-information continues and continues. I have liked other books in this series but this wasn't one of them. Overall disappointing.
book lover
"Great Book!! Great Series!!"
I havn't read the printed version. I don't really have time to read which is why I get the audio books.
I love all of Kyra's characters in this series. They work so well in the story and off of each other. Kyra does an amazing job with this series.
Unfortunately, no. Or at least not yet. I am sure that I will and I am equally sure that she will be able to do as well on other books. Her voices for the characters are very believable.
All of them. I would love to just sit back and listen to them go at it with each other!!
I am really happy that Kyra made the leap and published her book by herself. I am a major fan of this series and was very saddened to hear that her publisher had dropped her. I hope that she can continue to bring Sophie and her friends to us again and again. If you are a first time reader\listener I definately recommend this series!! I am always telling anyone who will listen about this series and I hope I have added to her fan base. Keep up the good work Kyra because some of us are are rooting for you and Sophie!!!!
"fun listen"
As with all the Sophie Katz novels, this is an easy, fun and interesting story.
