Ever since the gods of Ancient Egypt were unleashed in the modern world, Carter Kane and his sister, Sadie, have been in trouble. As descendants of the House of Life, the Kanes have some powers at their command, but the devious gods haven’t given them much time to master their skills at Brooklyn House, which has become a training ground for young magicians. And now their most threatening enemy yet—the chaos snake Apophis—is rising. If they don’t prevent him from breaking free in a few days’ time, the world will come to an end.
In other words, it’s a typical week for the Kane family. To have any chance of battling the Forces of Chaos, the Kanes must revive the sun god Ra. But that would be a feat more powerful than any magician has ever accomplished. First they have to search the world for the three sections of the Book of Ra, then they have to learn how to chant its spells. Oh, and did we mention that no one knows where Ra is exactly?
Narrated in two different wisecracking voices, featuring a large cast of new and unforgettable characters, and with adventures spanning the globe, this second installment in the Kane Chronicles is nothing short of a thrill ride.

"Rick is masterful with history and incrporation."
If you can get your kids to read these books then you are doing them a favor. These books are just plain fun but they also have many hidden treasures. The books have legends and history and ancient tales for them to read and maybe even remember. These are lessons that may creep up in school. These books have some fun mixed with knowledge. I cannot think of a better thing for a kid than to read for fun and accidentally learn something. The 30 Clues series is the same. Many historical and geographic facts mixed with a fun story.
"A Tremendous Tale"
Rick Riordan continues to shine light into the forgotten corners of Mythology. Sharing the fabulous stories of the past with the modern audience. It is a series with exceptional diversity, action, humor and a sense of style. If your looking for a series of books that breaks the mold of children's literature look no further.
"Listened with my 8 year old"
We loved the part where Set is trapped in a jar and keeps saying things like,
I listened to most of this with my son and we had a great time. Sometimes scenes were so funny that we stopped and repeated the lines over and over. He listened to it all. He had read the book first and enjoyed hearing the characters' voices. He laughed, he cried. Overall great book.
"An engaging audio and an engaging read!"
Yes, my son is the one listening to these and he loves the characters, the interaction and the accuracy to mythological legends.
It's actually a better read than Riordan's Heroes of Olympus series because it's better written and a much better set of performers on the audio version!
My son loved the interplay between the two characters and how they rounded out the idea of a brother-sister team without making the reading sound dry.
The reality is that I buy the audiobooks specifically so that my son who is dyslexic can stay well read and on his grade level despite his inability to read. He is almost twelve years old and these characters spoke to him. Frequently, audiobooks are read without inflection and without the reality that someone with language deficits needs in order to integrate language. These two readers hit all the high points, as well as covering a variety of accents.
Thousands of Years of Family Drama Comes to Life!
"An interesting and attractive book"
It is up among Harry Potter, Percy Jackson and all the other books. It's one of the best.
Of course I'll compare it to "The Red Pyramid", because it's the same series.
It made me laugh a lot, it is just full of fun.
"Thrilling Adventure for Children of All Ages"
The Kane series continues to capture the attention of fans of all ages! You won't want to put the book down!
I L O V E to read.
"Great book for the whole family!"
We have enjoyed all of Rick Riordan's books. I love it because not only do I enjoy the story but my Grandchildren do too.
This is a "clean" well written story, The dialog is clear enough for even my youngest grandchild to follow.
Sadie has to be my favorite character, her "spunk" is very endearing.
"Throne of Fire doesn't dissapoint!"
Fun, humorous, entertaining
Sadie Kane is my favorite character because of the way Rick Riordan has given her a great sense of humor as she goes through teen angst, the pains of becoming a magician, and some incredible adventures.
They infuse both main characters with a living, breathing personality that is both believable and accessible to the reader/ listener. And every other character comes to life as well!
...laugh mostly, cry a couple of times.
Love this whole series. It's not just a "kids" book. I love the Egpytian mythology facts as Riordan weaves them seamlessly into the story. I love that he has created a REAL muticultural family. Just a great time!
I am a person that tries and get through 1 book a week if possible. I am Dyslexic so this is really the only way I can get through a book. I have listened to more book in a year than I read my first 20 years of my life. I found the joy of audio books in the early 2000 and have been a audible customer since 2000 or 2001. I have over 490 books in 2 different accounts and listened to 90%.
"Awsome book for the young at heart"
I think having two different people reading this book helped out a lot. Taking the old egyptian gods and giving them a twist is very good by Rick.
I usually do not read a lot of books like this, but this series is so good that I will read everyone from here on out.
they bring a different listening experience that is unique. They bring life to the characters.
The dwarf god at 4th house at the end.
