The Lions of Lucerne

I'm a huge fan of Brad Thor and the Scott Harvath series. I've listened to just about all of the series before going back to this first one. Having listened to the others, this one doesn't feel as polished as the others, but that makes sense for the first in the series.

The story is typical for the Harvath series, good details and building up of the characters. It doesn't have the strength of following books but it's still a Thor so it's a great listen!

The story line is a bit far fetched with the details of the President's kidnapping; what was done to him and where he was held. I won't share details to spoil the story! But the rest of the story makes up for it.

Had I followed this in order I would still have continued on to the future books in the series and been happily surprised as they only continued to get better and better.

Armand Schultz does a nice job with a poorly written book. I have read every book in the Scott Harvath series, but they don't come close to Mitch Rapp series or Tom Clancy's work. I read these when I can't find anything else for this genre. The Harvath series is like a blunt instrument, while the others are precision instruments. That said, I still read them. Among the Harvath series, this is the weakest. In fairness to Thor, the character was still being developed, and I don't think he was totally clear where he was going to take it. If you love this genre like I do, read it after you have exhausted everything else (including the other Harvath books). While I prefer to read stories in order, this one is pretty lame.

If you like special forces action novels with lots of twists and turns this is a great series to follow. I began with some of Brad Thor's later books and was so impressed I had to go back to what started his primary character development and dig in.

The conclusion was more than a soft ending

Yes and I must say I look for things he has read as a must read. His talent of understanding the character and switching rapidly to their voice and speed of speech is remarkable. A very gifted actor. Brad would be nuts not to have him be the offical voice for all list books.

No crying but several smiles and a few damn that must hurt deep reactions.

The first chapter included very graphic homosexual activity. Stopped listening.

Maybe. But I would do more research on the storyline.

There was a lot of action. Alot of things were too unrealistic. Everybody was corrupt. Too many people. Everyone Scott turned to was corrupt, and happened to be linked with each other. I didn't like that. How is it that the ONE person Scott turned to when he found out about Andre just so happened to be linked in to the Senator who was trying to kill Andre?!
Also it got a little confusing when he went to Switzerland and got mixed up with Claudia.

I may recommend it, because it's a great series and it gets better with future books.

The FBI guy who kept chewing Scott out was a pretty good performance. He really sounded like he hated Scott.

It was crazy how so many people were corrupt.

In looking for another good detective/spy thriller series after listening to every Mitch Rapp, Dave Robicheaux, John Corey, and Harry Bosch novel ever recorded, I stumbled upon Scot Harvath series and decided to start at the beginning with Book 1.

With the expectations that very few could match the story line, characters and writing of the above mentioned characters and their creators in my opinion, I completed The Lions of Lucerne with an open mind. Conclusion is that it was a good start to what I am hoping will be a more developed character.

Not a great book, but an enjoyable listen and enough intrigue to make me wanted to find out what happens next. When the characters were in the snow storm, avalanche or mountain climbing icy cliffs, Thor had me feeling like I was right there as an observer to were I even felt a chill. That alone prompted me to go on to the next Scot Harvath adventure, State of the Union.

I found this book to be farfetched and trite. The characters were shallow and often dumb. Imagine a highly trained Navy Seal mouthing off to every authority figure that comes along and then going renegade to solve the problem of the president's kidnapping. Along the way he gets more breaks and second chances to fix mistakes than a reasonable reader should expect. I read one review that said that the Harvath series improved as the writer became more polished. I may try a library download to check this out but will not purchase another book until I've tried out other books. Hopefully I will find that the author has improved. In conclusion, I would recommend readers to thrillers such as early Tom Clancy, Vince Flynn, or Martin Cruz Smith.

Brad Thor is quickly becoming my favorite author. I would rank this among my top ten favorite books.

This book keeps you listening on the edge of your seat thinking 'there's no way out of this situation!' but Scott Harvath always finds a way... or gets exceptionally lucky!

Love the book and the author. One thing so. Every mystery writer I read seems to have the same impressions that professional which are angry like to talk to their target before executing them. Brad you need to find a better way to give the hero a break. Professionals shoot first and talk later!

Great reader with good range of voices and feel for the story.
