Lady Knight: Book 4 of the Protector of the Small Quartet

I love Tamora Pierce's works and Protector of the Small is actually my favorite series, but I found the performance by Bernadette Dunne a little distracting. From book to book the voices (namely Owen's) aren't consistent, and Ms. Dunne frequently puts the primary emphasis in a sentence on the wrong word, either changing the meaning of a sentence or removing it entirely. Specifically I can recall one sentence in either Page or Squire when she is listing the contents of Kel's travel pack given to her by her mysterious well-wisher; the written sentence is admittedly a little confusing in its comma usage, but the problem is when Ms. Dunne reads "...a hank of light, strong rope..." as "...a hank of light; strong rope.." changing the meaning from "a short length of sturdy, lightweight rope" to "a short length of light, and some strong rope," which is nonsensical. There are other examples of these strange malapropisms though I can't think of any more off the top of my head, but they do happen frequently enough to be distracting.

I love this story. Having read it in paperback many times and now hearing it read to me, it's a wonderful story full of everything good. It has action, drama, chivalry, and romance. I don't think anyone could not enjoy this story.

I think a lot shows about the Keladry when her people are taken and how she handles the situation. We spend a lot of the book waiting for her to finally go on her quest.

Her voices are really good. She is exciting to listen to.

When Kel meets Toby. At 18 caring for another person, not just because it's a duty but because you want things to be better for that person, is alot of what knighthood is about.

Compared to Outlander, it is mediocre. However, I really like Tamora Pierce. She brings me back into my childhood. Additionally, I love the message she brings that everyone should be accepted as who they are and that girls can kick ass.

If they just want a good fantasy story I would recommend this book. If they are really into highly descriptive and high vocabulary novels I would not recommend this book.

I don't normally get a chance to write a review for book series, but I've decided that this one was worth the time. The way the character grows and becomes so much more I really enjoyed. I also enjoyed the way the characters around the main character, learned to accept her. I would highly recommend that people give this series a listen
