Although his father had been reluctant to become a field operative, Jack Ryan Jr. wants nothing more. Privately training with a seasoned Special Forces drill instructor, he's honing his skills to transition his work within The Campus from intelligence analysis to hunting down and eliminating terrorists wherever he can—even as Jack Ryan Sr. campaigns for re-election as President of the United States.
But what neither father nor son knows is that the political and the personal have just become equally dangerous. A devout enemy of Jack Sr. launches a privately funded vendetta to discredit him by connecting the presidential candidate to a mysterious killing in the past by John Clark, his longtime ally.
A shadowy mercenary team is dispatched to capture the former Navy SEAL. With Clark on the run, it’s up to Jack Ryan Jr., along with Ding Chavez, Dominic Caruso, and the rest of the Campus team, to stop a threat emerging in the Middle East: A corrupt Pakistani general has entered into a deadly pact with a fanatical terrorist to procure nuclear warheads, which can be used to blackmail any world power into submission.
With the breakneck speed and military action scenes that have made him the premier thriller writer of our time, Tom Clancy delivers a novel of high-tech warfare in which the enemy within may be even more devastating than the enemy without.
Take another thrill ride with Jack Ryan.

"WAY too much detail!"
Though I am usually a Clancy fan, and thought Lou Diamond Phillips is a superb narrator, this book is beyond tedious. There are too many meandering unrelated story lines and the book is so full of extraneous technical detail that it could use another round or two of heavy editing! Indeed, it feels like the authors are just showing off their technical knowledge without regard to pacing of the story.
No
I have not, but will now look for books read by him. He's one of the best narrators I've heard, and I've listened to over one hundred audible books.
I'd cut most of the technical information and jargon. I'd also spin off some of the story lines for another book.
"Boring, nothing happened, characters unbelievable"
No, not by Tom Clancy. He mailed this one in. The characters were not believable. Jack Jr. could not even follow simple orders. The hero is running a major Op minutes after losing the use of his shooting hand then using his shooting hand with abandon, poor continuity.
I am now listening to Extremely loud and incredibly close by Foer
I don't think it was the narrators fault. The script was
None. I am disappointed I wasted a free credit on this book.
"Give me more! Loved it!"
Due to a busy work schedule I enjoy audio books more because I spend most of my time in the car travelling to and from work and while Im at work.
I particularly loved the shoot out scene in France. Lots of action, and was on the edge of y seat through out that scene.
I absolutely love his style of narration. He adds accents, different tones, different speach styles according to the characters background or origin and stays on point with his narration. When i listen to his narration i can actually picture mentally the different characters. Very enjoyable, in fact aside from being a Clancy follower, Im becoming a Lou Diamond Phillips follower. Great Narration!!
I listened to the book over the course of a week or two.
I do not agree with some of the other ratings this book has recieved. I found it to be very enjoyable and cant wait for the next book re: The campus and The Team. Loved it!
"Sub par for Clancy"
Clancy devotees will moan about this one! Mark Greaney devotees will wish he would just write more Gray Man!
Plot is good fiction. . . . too long too develop . . . .Ponduras . . . . neverthless I enjoyed it somewhat ,but felt the credit was not spent wisely.
But what do I know . . just an old man hasbeen!
Like action, adventures, war stories, militay happenings, historical readings-fiction/non-fic., & mysteries. Unabridged only! Reader IMPORT!
"To many names!!"
Kept losing track of all the names of --- just about in the middle of sentence we were jumped to a new location...!
The action tells were as great as ever in Clancy's books!!!!!
"Enjoyable but not his best."
I am a big Tom Clancy fan but I am going to have to say that the storyline on this was not as good as his past novels. I found the severe view of politics in this story to be a distraction and could have done without. The politics either made you good or evil depending on which side of the isle you are on. Besides the politics there was your typical action scenes that we all have come to love form Clancy. I found Lou Diamond Phillips enjoyable to listen to and I would listen to more of his narration's.
"Wayyyyyyyyyyyyy too much politics"
Always a good read. It is obvious that Clancy hates Democrates.
Nope. Would not waste another credit on him. He can't separate his politics from his art.
A great performance. I look forward to listening to him with other authors.
Sure, there must be plenty of fans who don't mind his mean spirited portrayals of half of this country.
Sad that Clancy has no issue marginalizing 50% of the potential reader base. Interesting how he can portray Democrats as un American. After reading most everything he has written ... I'm pretty much done.
"Great narration but story didn't hold my attention"
He is so good that I forgot I was listening to Lou Diamond Phillips. He has great ability to change his voice from character to character.
Maybe it's just me, but I tried 3 times to finish listening to the story, and I just couldn't. The characters didn't grab my attention. I didn't feel any emotion that made me want to continue. And for me personally, there was too much information about the technical aspects. I'm sure some people would appreciate that part, but not me.
"awsome reader for this one!!"
I want more!!!!
John Clarke on the run and the lenghts he goes through reminds me of days of old ( No Remorse ,another great one I recomend ) And the ending! WOW!!!
Yes. Dead or Alive. Nice to have alot of different voices to put with the characters, finally brings Clarke and Ding to life in a whole new way. Thanks LDP!!!
Believe me I wanted to.
I hope LDP does the next book in the Jack Ryan series I drive overnight and I am very entertained. Thanks for keeping me up!!
I spend about 55 hours a week driving and really enjoy having a good book to pass the miles.
"Could not stop listening!"
I am a Clancy addict, I freely admit. This book was so action packed and fast paced I could not stop listening. I listened to it for 10 hours at work and the 15 minute trip home. Some of Clancy's book get so detailed they kind of bog you down with information. There is some of that here but overall I think the duo of Greaney and Clancy is excellent. If you enjoy Clancy or Greaney you can't go wrong with this book. The narration by Phillips is excellent as well.
