"The ego in an Inquisitive"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?If you want a good romp around Eberron this is a good novel to do it. A well to do investigator with an ego to match. The main character is written in a way that you know he is excellent at his profession but you would like to throw him off a boat even if he was working for you. Arrogance incarnate with an intelligence to match. His dwarven companion is a good foil to the main character Abraxis Wren and keeps him well grounded like a good dwarf should.
Who was your favorite character and why?You have to wonder why his dwarven companion stay with Wren up until the time when Wrens ego needs to be popped and Wren needs to be deflated a bit to keep him in line.
If not for the dwarf, Wren would have been knifed long ago and perished in a back alley.
If Abraxis is a cloud then his companion the dwarf is the mountain that allows it to touch the ground.
Have you listened to any of Kate Reading’s other performances before? How does this one compare?This one is on par with the others.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?No. This is the type of book you can stop and restart and take a few days to listen too.
Its a good listen but not one that need to be rushed.
Any additional comments?Abraxis can be quite irritating at times which shows how well it is written. I would have liked to see more of the thought processes that went into some of his decisions before you hear the end product of his plans.

"Exciting adventure in the world of Eberron"
Would you listen to Taint of the Black Brigade again? Why?I have read approximately 15-20 Eberron books over the past couple of years and this one is my favorite--so much so that I bought the audible edition after already owning the print and e-book versions.
The main character is Abraxis Wren who is sort of a cross between Daniel Ocean (Oceans 11) and Sherlock Holmes. The narrator does a wonderful job of bringing all of the characters to life--especially Wren.
I would love to see more in the series (The Night of Long Shadows is the first Wren book, and there are a total of four other Inquisitives novels).
