I love to read books set in interesting places or historical settings. I especially love mysteries and thrillers.

"Second Book in the Series EXCEEDS!!"
I enjoyed the first book in this Kensey and Gennero series, "A Drink Before the War", so I was worried that the second book wouldn't live up to my high expectations. I was so wrong though. This book was just as original, suspenseful, scary as the first. Again, I was caught by surprise with the clever twists and turns. I was listening while driving in heavy traffic one day and had to turn it off because I was getting so anxious for the safety of the detectives I have grown to love over these two books. Don't start on this audio book until you have a large block of time for listening because it will be the only thing you think of until it is finished. Jonathan Davis is a wonderful narrator. I can imagine the characters so well with his interpretation.

"Dennis Lehane is more than a murder mystery writer"
Would you consider the audio edition of Darkness, Take My Hand to be better than the print version?I don't know.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Darkness, Take My Hand?When we realize who the bad guy is.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?no. I wanted to savor it and have it last.
Any additional comments?Lehane is a great story-teller. No higher praise than that is possible

"I love this series!"
Would you listen to Darkness, Take My Hand again? Why?Yes. This is the kind of novel that "pulls you in" from the start and presents well drawn and interesting characters.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?Yes, very well crafted and keeps you guessing.
Have you listened to any of Jonathan Davis’s other performances before? How does this one compare?Yes, he's very good, especially with the Boston inflections.

"A Little Too Graphic"
Enjoyed the story, characters, the narrator and the plot; however, some scenes were just a tad too graphic for my taste. Sometimes it is better to imagine a scene or action rather than to have it spelled out in such detail.

"Bad story, worse writing"
What disappointed you about Darkness, Take My Hand?Writing is sophomoric; story is weak; characters shallow and not credible.
What do you think your next listen will be?Back to great writing and character, well read. Anything read by Patrick Tull or written by writers of the quality of John LeCarre, Ellis Peters, Charles Dickens, Kate Morton, Margaret Atwood and ohers who really know how to write and aim the writing at people who actually like good writing and excellent reading.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Jonathan Davis?Woud not matter. Not posible to put lipstick on this pig

"over the top"
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?No, the narrator was just too dramatic. If I had been reading the book I wouldn't have interpreted the way the narrator did. It was annoying!
