"Outside were stray animals and people, each about some pursuit. Sometimes it was a beggar at the door, sometimes a leprous hand reaching for a handout with a plea for compassion. Life with all its hurts and pains squinted at you, squatted before you, and stared you down daily. This was the street where I grew up."
Ravi Zacharias has lived an extraordinary life. He has walked with great leaders, slept in the villages and homes of the poor, and crossed continents to bring the good news of the gospel to the world. Already a man of two worlds by the time he was 20, Ravi never dreamed that God would lead him from his birth home in India to Canada and the United States, and eventually to a platform on the world stage.
For 33 years he has spoken all over the world. He has addressed writers of the peace accord in South Africa, the president's cabinet and parliament in Peru, and military officers at the Lenin Military Academy and the Center for Geopolitical Strategy in Moscow. He has given the keynote address at the National Day of Prayer in Washington, DC, and has spoken twice at the Annual Prayer Breakfast at the United Nations in New York.
Walking from East to West is Ravi's life story, a deeply personal journey into his past. Dr. Zacharias invites you back to the southern India of his early childhood, and into his troubled youth in the sophisticated capital city of Delhi. He recalls the importance of a mother's love and his difficult relationship with his father. He tells about his long search for truth in wrestling with Eastern thought and the newer ideas of Christianity, the cry for help in a dark moment when he tried to take his own life - and the dramatic turning point that led to a life lived for Christ. Zacharias recalls his early days as a new convert, what it was like to find a new life in the Western world, and the eventual birth and growth of a worldwide ministry.

"A global View of Christianity with heart"
It is simply one of the best written books on the very difficult subject, Christianity. The author is one of a kind, he is a Christian Apologist and intellect who writes with a heart for all people. Ravi Zacharias reminds Westerners that prejudice comes in well-meaning packages. He carries a heart and life experience that few of us could write about with such clarity and honesty.
That the well told story doesn't force readers to leave reason behind and that God the father is the author of all reason.
The handicapped man on the cart that Ravi met when he was exiting the theatre.
Yes, and while driving, cooking and working.
Amazing! Ravi is an author that has written books that I can give to my brother who has multiple PHDs and to my non reading friends.
"how lucky we are in the west, but maybe not"
it up there. great story.
for me it was the stark reminder of the simple things in life that we take for granted, like each child having their own room. or the opportunity to attend school, to not have to lot in life determined by cast position ...
then there is the realisation that depression and loneliness is universal, you can much or little and still struggle with the why questions of life.
ravi
hell no .... some of us work for a living even at double speed (i figure I can comrehend faster than speed most books are read out loud so I list to them at double speed) it still took several 1/2 and 1 hr sittings.
good book, first time I have listen or read any of Ravi's stuff will definately give some others a go now
"Life Changing Book!"
The story of Ravi Zacharias' is awe insprieing. It is a story of a man whose life was radically changed and prepared to preach and teach the Gosple all over the world. His focus is on the salvation that comes through Christ not on the strengths of his own efforts or desires.
I would have liked to hear it from Ravi himself but Simon Vance actually did an amazing job and it was easy to just sit down and listen to his voice.
"Life changing."
Get to know Ravi Zacharias. What makes him tick. How God worked in his life.
