Publisher's Summary

Six BBC TV episodes starring Rowan Atkinson, Miranda Richardson, Stephen Fry, Hugh Laurie, and Tony Robinson.

England 1760-1815. With the advent of the Regency period the Blackadder's family fortune has rather plummeted.

Edmund Blackadder, butler to the Prince Regent, veers from calamity to disaster with very little in the way of constructive help from either his imbecile Lord and master the Prince Regent or the mouse-brained Baldrick.

Here, Blackadder single-handedly brings about the election of Mr S. Baldrick MP, gets as far as aardvark in his attempt to re-write Dr Johnson's English Dictionary and battle with French Revolutionaries before killing the Scarlet Pimpernel. Ever ready to serve, Blackadder woos a wife for his master, confounds anarchists and actors who sip coffee while scheming of revolution, and stands in for the Prince in a fatal duel with the brutal Duke of Wellington.

The collection includes the following episodes: "Dish and Dishonesty", "Nob and Nobility", "Ink and Incapability", "Sense and Senility", "Amy and Amiability", and "Duel and Duality".

I live in Vermont. My freelance work requires reading critical and expository prose, so I like fanciful escapist fare for fun.

    "crackling wit"
Where does Blackadder the Third rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

one of the most entertaining listens--high density of zingers per minute

Would you recommend Blackadder the Third to your friends? Why or why not?

yes--some of my friends share the bitter sense of humor required to enjoy the clever writing

What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Atkinson's delivery serves the brilliant writing with clarity and character. Having a full cast helps keep the invisible action straight.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, it's a set of sparkling half-hour television episodes. Space them out like savouries, and give each your full attention.

    Any additional comments?

Pace is just right--the preposterous plots move swiftly, yet every word is crisply pronounced and emphasized--even the sarcastic "throwaway" lines.

    "Blackadder is terrific"

Rowan Atkinson and Hugh Laurie are stupendious in this series !! One moment please .... shut up Baldrick !! As I was saying this is a absolutely top notch british humour, I love it !!

You may listen to this and watch it and either way it is one terrific show !!

Until Pitt the younger starts shaving, download this and hold on to your sides.

Hugh Laurie also stars in the hit TV show House MD entering it's third season :)

    "Best Blackadder ever!"

This is my favorite of the Blackadder series. Just erudite enough and full of wit...well, at least in Edmund's case!

Hugh Laurie is a great witless Prince and Baldrick is the same through all the series....es.
