"Loved it! Fun listen, interesting characters."
This was a fun book, with an excellent narrator. A great listen.
The girl who worked in the cake shop was my favorite character.
I've never listened to this author's books before, but this was a great bet.
I thought it was entertaining, fun, and a great book to get lost in.
If I had gone by the negative comment about this book, I would have missed out. This is a really fun listen. Don't miss out.
"Painful attempt at a novel."
The story is extremely slow paced, yet it moves you along expecting there to be an actual ending. Well or at least a story to be told.
The better question would be what did not disappoint. You listen to the story and it keeps you with it expecting something to happen. Anything really. But nothing ever does. There is no ending to the story, no highlights, nothing. It's like a wet dream just after waking up in the morning. You know there is potential in the story and you can imagine an infinite number of twists and turns that would make the experience a pleasurable one. Yet once you are fully awake, it is simply deeply unsatisfying. The story leaves you hanging with tantalizing possibilities without ever resolving to anything. Even if this is just one installment in a series, this story is so badly ended, that you should avoid it at any cost unless you are a deeply masochistic person.
The narration is what kept me listening. It is pleasantly melodious and tantalizing. It takes a horrid attempt at writing a story and imbues it with at least some character. The only reason the narration only gets 4 stars is that it is blatantly dishonest. A bland and uninspired reading of a bland and uninspired story would have been more fitting. My deepest respects to the narrator. She managed to turn this audiobook from water, if not into wine, at least into artificial grape-juice.
About half the novel is fluff and could be cut, but only if it were replaced with something of actual substance, like an actual story line.
"Disappointing Listen"
This is not like the TV show at all. I thought the plot was week and the characters did not engage me.
No
Good performance, not great.
