Deception

I would like to say that I found this book (Deception) to be fun and light.

This is my favortite Quick book. I grabbed it the day it became avaiable. love the story, the wit, the danger, and gotta love the In-Laws!! i have worn out several paperback versions and a hard back...now i listen in the car and on my MP3 palyer!!! Her older books are my favorite. I also like that she doesn't feel the need to give the reader(listener) a history lesson when telling her tale! Just plain FUN. I hope some of the older ones like Mistress, With this Ring, I Thee Wed and a few others will come out with unabridges versions. I have the tape versions......./sob...i would love a unabridged verson not the horriable abridged ones they have avaiable.

Best of the new Quick books IMO. I like Regency though tire of oft repeated plots. This takes a different slant and not always predictable. It's fascinating to hear the developing relationships of all the characters especially the interchanges between the two leads, starting from the introduction of the "tutor" into a madcap household. Both main characters are quite unique and balance each other very well as does the storyline. Definitely fun for summer read ...or anytime.

I can't say for certain that the story itself is bad. I had so much difficulty getting past the annoying narrator that I could barely concentrate on the story. Normally I enjoy Amanda Quick/Jayne Ann Krentz, so it is possible that the story was entertaining. Unfortunately, the narrator thought it was necessary to whisper-growl most of the voices and most statements were made in an exclamation with the last word of sentences being drawn out. It is sad but true that a narrator can make or break a good book. Perhaps this particular book should be read in paperback form rather than listening to the audio version. So, I will not comment on the storyline itself, just be aware that the narrator will pull you out of the story almost continually. I found myself dwelling on her pronuciations and excited whispers.

This is not the Great American Novel, but it is HUGE FUN!!!! Definitely worth the credit, especially if you are already a fan of Amanda Quick (Jayne Ann Krentz).

Yes. I have listened to Deception twice. It was a light, fun story that included a mystery of long lost buried treasure. You can't go wrong with that. I also liked that all of the families involved (and the relationships between secondary characters) were a little bit unusual. There are no run-of-the-mill nuclear families here. It was refreshing. Ms. Quick relegated the over-the-top drama ("Beware the Guardian!") to the buried treasure subplot and allowed the protagonists to follow their feelings without all the unnecessary anxious hyperbole that is often used in romance novels to create tension. This was also refreshing.

Yes. This was a fun love story with some quirky characters. If this is typical of Ms. Quick's work, I would happily listen to another book written by her. I would wait for a sale though.

Anne Flosnik is very dependable. I can always count on enjoying her narration. She does an excellent job giving voice to the different characters without making them into caricatures.

I was fine with taking breaks. I like audiobooks for listening to while I perform other tasks, like cleaning or gardening. The desire to Just. Keep. Listening. is a pleasure sometimes, and obviously indicates I'm immersed in a great story, but that can interfere with my main goals. I don't consider it a drawback if I am content to listen piece-meal fashion.

Most people complain about the narrator but I was introduced to Anne Flosnick on a different series. I like how she portrays the characters and think that her representation of these books are wonderful. I love this book and even bought 2 copies in paperback because I read them so many times. The women in Amanda Quick books are so progressive for their times and make the books so enjoyable because of the trouble they cause the men in the books. I would recommend any book by Amanda Quick.

I think I should have read the paperback book rather than listening to the story. The narrator just made it impossible to get fully into the story. The dragging voice, ridiculous tone inflections on certain words was almost comical at times. The narrator is really doing a dis-service to the book...

The story was light. It's an easy book to read (again insisting on reading it and NOT listening to it due to the terrible narration). I enjoyed the story.

The story is definitely light and easy to read.

The characters, as usual for Amanda Quick, were very well rounded. She has done better stories.

Nicely rounded characters and good descriptions of the times and mores.

I would have perferred less of an accent, but it fit the story.

More depth to the story.

The hero "fixed" things too much, private meetings after the fact . . . Overall, it was a quirky story, likeable enough and easy to listen to, but I had no desire to listen to it again. Have already removed it from my Droid.

This was the first time reading or hearing an Amanda Quick novel, so I have no point of reference.

Too affected, even for a Brit :-) Sorry, but it was just a bit too "gaspy" or would "breathy" be a better word? Reminded me a bit of the Eloisa James narrator who did the Fairy Tale series.

No. Unless I can find a review identifying the "best" of Amanda Quick, this book will probably be the only Amanda Quick story I'll listen/read. Again, it wasn't awful, just not worth listening to again.

I did like the aspect of the two "aunts" - provocative point tying in with the denoument.
