"Reading style matches the drama of Genesis"

At first I was a bit disappointed in the reading style presented in this audiobook, but after the part about Sodom and Gomorrah, I had to turn off my iPod for a moment and catch my breath. This is definitely worth the purchase! The language is contemporary but not in a way that detracts from the stories of the Patriarchs. Outstanding!!

    "It's All There - And It's Wonderful"
Would you listen to The Listener's Bible NIV again? Why?

I was concerned when I read a few other reviews that some books of the Bible might be missing, but it is all there - the complete Bible. A part will be titled the first book of the Bible that is contained in that part, however the part will contain other books if they are short and can fit into the time span of a normal part. I believe that is what has confused some listeners. I have listened to the entire audio version and it is all there. The narration by Max McLean is wonderful. He brings the words to life. I canot imagine a better choice for narrator. And the soft musical background is soothing. This is an audio book that I will listen to over and over again.

    "Emotional!"

Obviously the book of John is wonderful but I also really enjoyed the narrator. His reading style is very unique and captivating. The background music is good because it doesn't distract the listener from the reading yet adds a little "something" to the expression of the book itself.

"one note playing in background sets nerves on edge"

The English speaker is excellent, not too fast, very clear, easy to listen to and understand, but the one and only musical note playing in the back ground set my nerves on edge, and I would gladly do without it and just listen to the speaker. I wish there were some way to fix this problem for me at least. This applies to all the books of "The Listener's Bible NIV (Unabridged)"

    "Best book ever written..."

I've been wanting this Bible in audiobook for some time. I have the DVD by same author/narrator and it's great to study when I go to bed or in the morning. Plays great in my CD/DVD standalone player. Narration is great. I'm used to the drone note in the background.

However, this is a common complaint from iTunes downloads from audible, the chapters download in _alphabetical order_. The Book was not written with Acts as the first book. No matter what you do in iTunes it is this way. A major nuisance. What you have to do is make a "playlist" and put all the books in it then rearrange the books in Biblical order. This confuses iTunes since you have the book in audiobooks out-of-order but in a the correct order in the playlist. iTunes will, in most cases, drop the entire playlist (trust me, I've done this several times now having spent hours trying to keep the playlist in the correct oder). I called apple support and they have no cure other than what I've done. However, when you sync your iPod Touch (in my case), the playlist disappears (the software doesn't recognize one order in "audiobooks" library and the playlist in my device. A major pain. I emailed audible regarding this problem several days ago and have gotten no response, so I will probably be cancelling due to this non-response.

Purchasers of Listener's Bible at the home website have complained and complained about this anomaly but get no response from Fellowship for the Performing Arts or a "what can I do" response (if any). I believe it's the software (iTunes) since there is no Part number for the books for the program to refer to in order to get the books Genesis-Revelation. Now you _could_ number the book sections in number order but that could be risky as well. Be aware of this if you download for iTunes. It will be all out-of-order in your audiobooks library. Caveat emptor on this one...

Other than that, I gave a lot of stars for this because it's a valiant and coherent reading of the Bible. Get it for CD (mp3) is my recommendation and forget iTunes (a crappy program to begin with and their updates are worse than before).

    "Please -Read before purchase."

I realize my rating is a bit odd, so please read why.

I was quite familiar with this particular version of the Bible and the narrator, I had purchased a Kindle just to have this Bible in an easy to lift format. However, I believe the purchaser should be warned that the books of the Bible are installed as separate books not as chapters within a book. Some of the short books are lumped together, but instead of installing one book, you end up with almost 60 different books making looking for anything else on the Kindle quite cumbersome. The other item is that is takes up almost all the Kindle, leaving room for just a few other books.

The advantage of installing the books as separate books rather than chapters is of course you can remove parts of the Bible to make room for other books as necessary, but who wants bits and pieces of the Bible? I'm quite certain if I did that the one passage I need would be in a book I'd archived.

While I see advantages to the way this was done, I feel the purchaser should be warned in advance. That said, I truly like this version, prefering it over others and feel the narrator, Max McLean is the best. Not only do I enjoy his voice, he has in some places changed the way I understand the Bible and the people. I've listened to several versions of the Bible and have heard others narrate this version, this is the first one I went to when I purchased my Kindle and while I have others, this will be my main "go to" Bible both audible and hardcopy.

    "The reason I joined Audible..."

...was so I could get this for my audio player and listen to it on the road. I have been through the entire Bible twice, and though it's not perfect (background music can be odd at times, reader's voice volume and emphasis change greatly from one chapter to the next, word emphasis and pronunciation seem strange in places, etc.)it is a blessing to have and hear.

Well worth the price, especially with membership. I would recommend for everyone.

    "Very good purchase."

I am enjoying listening to the Bible, NIV, read by Max McLean. I'm very glad I purchased it. I have a long commute back and forth to work every day and this affords me time in God's Word that I might not otherwise get. I find listening I get as much, if not more, out of scripture because of the passive way I am receiving it. I don't have to concentrate on the written word and I don't get as distracted. The NIV is also a good version to choose b/c the language is closer to the way we speak today. I'm very pleased with my purchase.
