Nice to be back in Oxford!

I enjoyed this latest entry in the Oxford Tearoom series. There's trouble at the Little Stables Tearoom, and Gemma and her friends are in the thick of it. As always, there's a murder, a plethora of suspects, some great food, interesting characters, and the beautiful setting of Oxford. What's not to love?

Well, for one thing - the "Old Biddies" have gotten way too raunchy. Their inappropriate (and unnecessary) comments were definitely on the downside of this otherwise fun story. And Gemma still hasn't learned that lying, aside from the fact that it's wrong, won't improve her relationship with her boyfriend.

On the plus side, there was an interesting storyline involving Asian culture and foods. The mystery held my interest, the characters were well drawn, and as always, the book was well written. A beautifully described afternoon when Gemma takes a walk through the city of Oxford was a highlight for me, and really made me want to see it for myself.

The audio version was a pleasure to listen to. The reader, Pearl Hewitt, has a wonderful gift of being able to voice all the different characters uniquely - even Muesli the mischievous cat! She switches effortlessly between different accents, and is an outstanding narrator.

I would like to note that the Audible website states: "Recipe included" - but in fact, it is not in the audiobook which was a disappointment to me.

Overall, (with just a few negatives) "Wrongfully Infused" was fun to listen to, and good escapist fare.

I love reading these stories. Something quick and light and good. Always a complete delight.

Another well written & enjoyable read/listen cozy

Wrongfully Infused (Oxford Tearoom Mysteries ~ Book 11), My twenty-third read/ listen from author H.Y. Hanna. An enjoyable cozy mystery. I absolutely loved Paerl Hewitt, the British accented narrator who adds greatly to the listening enjoyment with her wide variety of entertaining voices & inflections. “I received a free Audible copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

Entertaining cozy mystery

Great cozy mystery. Both the author and the narrator kept me invested from the first chapter. With a number of twists and turns and a result I didn’t see coming, I was hooked. Cannot wait to read and or listen to more from this author.

As always a pleasant listen but this time was off

I am choosing to write a review this time because some of the portrayals of another race were very bothersome. And of all the complaints made thus far, nobody else seems to have decided to speak up on the issue that actually matters in the long run for potentially contributing to a racist narrative. Only complaining about silly expectations of a series that has already settled into it's formula as though you're surprised after 11 stories. Please.
I am still trying to understand what timeframe this book is set in because there's no way that none of the family can use chopsticks if it's supposed to be in the 2000s. And the whitewashed nature of what is right or wrong in a family setting, or culture in general started to grate. I have a feeling the initial obsession that her mother had with the culture was supposed to display annoyance with the mothers flighty nature and not the customs themselves but thats not how it came off. And the behavior of the daughters only seems to amplify stereotypes of people of Chinese heritage.
I hope the author reads this review with a more open mind to how it would feel to read this as a person of color.
I have always enjoyed a good COZY read, as this series is meant to be so there are going to be silly, out-there responses to things people in REAL life wouldn't do/have. If you're going to complain about that then I would suggest you choose a different genre. It's not always meant to be realistic, just enjoyable.

Another hit!!

I enjoy all of HY Hanna’s books but this series is my favorite so far. Can’t wait for the next book to come out!

another fun story but...

spoiler alert: Jemma is getting annoying. I dont blame Devlin. just saying. I hope her character gets less obnoxious if there is another book.
