Publisher's summary

Meridy Dresden was once a free-spirited, fun-loving girl. All that changed when the boy she loved was killed in a tragic fire. Since then, she alone has carried the burden of a terrible secret. Years later, married to a wonderful man and mother of a teenage son, she is shocked to learn that a childhood friend is being blamed for that long-ago fire. Fearful but determined, Meridy returns to the South Carolina Lowcountry and summons the courage to make a decision that may destroy her well-ordered life, her family’s reputation, her contented marriage, and everything she’s worked so hard to protect... including her heart.

Disappointed

Really well written story until the very end. The sudden ending that didn’t seem to make sense given how well written the rest of the story was gave me the impression that the author got bored writing this story and just decided to end it. A couple more chapters to help the reader understand why on earth the lead character would make the choice she did would have helped. Without further character development all I’m left to think is that the lead character has low self-esteem and it’s okay to be a door mat for other people. I’m disappointed that I invested over 14 hours of my life.
