Publisher's summary

Best-selling author, cofounder of Girlfriends in God, and writer for Proverbs 31 Ministries Sharon Jaynes reveals the secret to living a better story: understanding that the worst parts of our past are the very things God uses most.

Many people don't like the story God is writing in their lives. The mistakes, failures, tragedies, and circumstances outside of our control linger in our minds and hold us back. How do we come to grips with the pieces of our stories that we wish weren't there? How do we silence the pain of what has been done to us and the shame of what we've allowed to be done through us?

In When You Don't Like Your Story, Bible teacher Sharon Jaynes shows us how God untangles our most painful emotions with the fingers of grace, putting his redemption on display. In the hardest parts of our narratives, we get to see God's greatest work - and this changes the ending of our stories. As we overcome shame, offer forgiveness, and use our stories to help others, we find freedom from the past and learn to live in the restoration of the present.

A powerful and encouraging book

I loved this book. It was exactly what I needed in this chapter of my life. I'm so thankful that God can use the good and the messy parts of my story. The narrator did an amazing job! Thank you Sharon Jaynes for being open and honest as you wrote this book. Your book reinforced what God has been teaching me this past year. May God richly bless you and your family.

Highly recommend this book!

What a great eye opener for me to realize I have allowed many others write my story and try to live that as though it’s true. I’m encouraged to write my own.

Such a Good Book

I bought this book on a whim, I’d never heard of the author but was familiar with Proverbs31 ministry she works with. I’m walking through a hurtful season now and the stories of people in the book, both historical and current, are so meaningful and encouraging. I’ve recommended this book to people in my life I’m close to, will recommend it here as well.

Open my mind

I enjoyed this book. It gave a different perspective on how to think about your life and if you feel things need changing and that it is okay to do so.

When I didn't like my best friend's story

This book brought me so much encourage in a time of loss. I lost my best friend to cancer unexpectantly. We were ready to fight and God's grace took her home before I was ready. I didnt like my friend's story. I wanted her to be able to fight for her life for her two young children, for the ministry she would leave behind. This book gave me a different lens, a soften heart to reality and a renewed hope in God.

Astonishing.

the reader of this book was absolutely phenomenal, and I think that helped deliver this amazing message even more powerfully. I thoroughly enjoyed this, and I definitely learned a lot. I will be purchasing the hardback to review some of the most important points.

You can change your story

Sharon Jaynes writes a heartfelt book filled with hope. She tells of times that life looked hopeless for herself or for others. She is a very good storyteller and shows how the story can change. She knows and tells how difficult this can be and that usually there are no quick fixes.

The narrator does a very good job of leading us through all of this in spoken form.

You might not like your story, and who of us like every chapter, but the author holds out hope for a good ending anyway. It's not easy but keep writing.

What I needed to hear

This is a great book and provided me some support for what I am experiencing in my life at this moment. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is in a rough chapter of their life. It’s a Christian book, but can apply to someone with any belief system.
