With A Furious Sky, Eric Jay Dolin has created a vivid, sprawling account of our encounters with hurricanes, from the nameless storms that threatened Columbus's New World voyages to the destruction wrought in Puerto Rico by Hurricane Maria. Weaving a story of shipwrecks and devastated cities, of heroism and folly, Dolin introduces a rich cast of unlikely heroes and puts us in the middle of the most devastating storms of the past, none worse than the Galveston Hurricane of 1900, which killed at least 6,000 people, the highest toll of any natural disaster in American history.

The operation takes less than two minutes. Luke will wake up at The Institute, in a room that looks just like his own, except there's no window. And outside his door are other doors, behind which are other kids with special talents - telekinesis and telepathy - who got to this place the same way Luke did: Kalisha, Nick, George, Iris, and 10-year-old Avery Dixon.

I’ve been in this life for 50 years, been trying to work out its riddle for 42, and been keeping diaries of clues to that riddle for the last 35. Notes about successes and failures, joys and sorrows, things that made me marvel, and things that made me laugh out loud. How to be fair. How to have less stress. How to have fun. How to hurt people less. How to get hurt less. How to be a good man. How to have meaning in life. How to be more me.

Tom Felton’s adolescence was anything but ordinary. His early rise to fame in beloved films like The Borrowers catapulted him into the limelight, but nothing could prepare him for what was to come after he landed the iconic role of the Draco Malfoy, the bleached blonde villain of the Harry Potter movies. For the next ten years, he was at the center of a huge pop culture phenomenon and yet, in between filming, he would go back to being a normal teenager trying to fit into a normal school. Speaking with great candor and his signature humor, Tom shares his experience.

Behind the curtain of her happy on-screen persona, Valerie Bertinelli’s life has been no easy ride, especially when it comes to her own self-image and self-worth. She waged a war against herself for years, learning to equate her value to her appearance as a child star on One Day at a Time and punishing herself in order to fit into the unachievable Hollywood mold. She struggled to make her marriage to Eddie Van Halen—the true love of her life—work, despite all the rifts the rock-star lifestyle created between them.

Publisher's summary
Most occasionally glance up at the sky if they hear a rumble of thunder, if they notice the wind picking up, or if a pretty sunset has taken over before dusk. Others keep an eye on the sky early and often, every day, with eyes of fascination, a mind of curiosity, and a deep desire to learn about the wonders of the Earth's atmosphere. People like James Spann.
From his earliest days growing up in rural South Alabama, his eyes have been on the sky with wonder. Through challenging situations in his young life, he took the love of weather and turned it into a long, rewarding career as a professional meteorologist. Most know him from social media, television, radio, or the weekly show for weather nerds, WeatherBrains.
But, most don't know his real story. This autobiography allows folks to ride along with James Spann on his long and winding life journey. They will learn things they don't know about him, experience deep details concerning the historic weather events that shaped his career, and most importantly, learn some things that just might help them in their lives and in their darkest days.
The book was written not only to document a long career in weather and the events that shaped it, but to serve as an encouragement and blessing to those who read/listen to it.

Story
Best-selling author Bryan Burrough recently made a shocking discovery: The small town of Temple, Texas, where he had grown up, had harbored a dark secret. One of his high school classmates, Danny Corwin, was a vicious serial killer. In this chilling tale, Burrough raises important questions of whether serial killers can be recognized before they kill or rehabilitated after they do. It is also a story of Texas politics and power that led the good citizens of the town of Temple to enable a demon who was their worst nightmare.

Experience a bold take on this classic autobiography as it’s performed by Oscar-nominated Laurence Fishburne. In this searing classic autobiography, originally published in 1965, Malcolm X, the Muslim leader, firebrand, and Black empowerment activist, tells the extraordinary story of his life and the growth of the Human Rights movement. His fascinating perspective on the lies and limitations of the American dream and the inherent racism in a society that denies its non-White citizens the opportunity to dream, gives extraordinary insight into the most urgent issues of our own time.

A humble look back on life.
I have grown up watch James Spann on my local news channel. He has warned of many storms, snow and all other events in my lifetime. It is obvious how much he cares for those in his broadcast network. But what really stands out is that he is just a guy, who wants to work hard and do the very best job he can. He never sugar coats things to make himself look better and is always trying to learn from each weather event to make the next one safer. If you enjoy reading about a life well spent, weather, or just a good man trying to do right, you will enjoy this book. And James...thanks for always watching over us in central Alabama.

Great book and great narration
I’ve always loved Spann so I was looking forward to this book. Spann being a TV weatherman broadcaster, I should have known his narration of this book would be great. I really enjoyed hearing about his life and his take on many different issues. Would love for him to narrate other books in the future!

Weatherbrains ‘fanboy’
I’ve grown to trust and respect this man from being a loyal Weatherbrains ‘fanboy’. Mr. Spann is always humble without false modesty while usually being the most knowledgeable and accomplished person in most settings. Always quick to shower praise and credit on others- when there’s something he doesn’t understand- he tirelessly does whatever is required to become proficient in that, too. Or, as with the social sciences and his appreciation for their efforts and talents, he leans on their expertise and utilizes everything from them that might help save lives.
Lastly, I’ll say that this book shows he has a Servant’s Heart and we are all better off for his efforts.

Inspiring...loved it.
Inspiring, humble and honest words from a voice we've all grown to live and trust.
I read the book, but hearing it from the man himself made it even more personal and real.
Thank you for sharing your life stories with us, and for the compassion you have in protecting all those "within the sound of your voice."
