Publisher's summary

"Talk" seems so normal, so ordinary, so harmless. Yet there are few things we do that are more important. And underneath the normality of it all is a great struggle, a war of words that we fight every day.

Who hasn't been hurt by the words of another? Who hasn't regretted something they said? Who hasn't had to referee an argument? Who hasn't wanted to talk seriously with a loved one, yet there seems to be no time?

Recognizing that words are powerful, Paul Tripp shows us how the gospel transforms the way we communicate. Our Lord Jesus Christ, the Word is the only hope for our words. In our war of words, he is the one who gives us the victory. Tripp directs us to a renewed reliance on our heavenly Father's abundant grace and a more Christ-honoring, people-benefiting life of talk.

Heart changing

How you think is a reflection of your heart, sometimes I feel like I haven’t hanged very much as a Christian. After making some very costly decisions if has been very hard to feel there is any future left for me. How I think has got to change. This read has given me a path to follow. Thank you!

Gut punch

A very good Biblical gut punch, but such wisdom that everyone needs to hear. If you want better relationships, it begins with you and in your heart. This book was very good to help with just that!

Convicting and practical

After an argument this book really stings to listen to. The salt and light of Biblical truth has a way of discovering exactly where cuts of sin are, intensifying the pain, and cleaning out the degenerate - creating humble ground for a posture of forgiveness and love-seeking reconciliation.
God is after my motivation for communication, not just the literal words I use. I can need to communicate something, say it in the “right way,” but if my heart is prideful, then God is mocked and hell cheers me on.
Thankful that God uses weak people for sanctifying work. Paul Tripp discusses many truths in such a way that I learned more than I bargained for about my sin nature, Gospel application, and my need for God.

Both practical and paradigm shifting

Great book all the way around. The content was very enlightening and useful in daily application. The stories told really brought home the main point. This book format and narrator added to the value of the content.

Well done!

Incredibly helpful!!

Absolutely love how much Scripture was in this but also how practical this was in providing help to address the heart issue. This is book I'll be going to time and time again. It has truly helped me to think more biblically and to approach situations as opportunities to be God's ambassador.

Highly recommend it!
