Publisher's summary

I'M LOST. I'M SCARED. AND THERE'S SOMETHING HORRIBLE IN HERE.

My name is Gary Rendell. I'm an astronaut. When they asked me as a kid what I wanted to be when I grew up, I said, "astronaut, please!" I dreamed astronaut, I worked astronaut, I studied astronaut. I got lucky; when a probe exploring the Oort Cloud found a strange alien rock and an international team of scientists was put together to go and look at it, I made the draw.

I got even luckier. When disaster hit and our team was split up, scattered through the endless cold tunnels, I somehow survived.

Now I'm lost, and alone, and scared, and there's something horrible in here.

Lucky me.

Lucky, lucky, lucky.

Enjoyable short story with great narration

Definitely a "short story" in terms of depth but fun writing and great narration really elevated it - hope Adrian narrates more of his work!

amazing (per usual)

fantastic story, per usual. well rounded plot with good science fiction, humor, and enough depth to make you care about the characters. has a real HHGTTG vibe but not afraid to explore darker and more serious emotions. author does a fantastic job narrating his own story. highly recommend!!!!

Great Short Sci Fi

Wickedly good sci fi with an unexpected twist. Perfectly narrated, delightfully written. A great ‘monster’ story.

Weird but loved it

Weird but loved it
Chatty and rambling but given context of plot makes perfect sense.

Imaginative, Chaotic, and Harrowing

This book has one of the most intriguing premises I’ve heard in a long time—with an equally compelling plot told through the unstable voice of Gary Rendell. Great narration and great story overall!

Wonderful

Everything you want, nothing you don't. I was skeptical that Tchaikovsky reading his own book was a good idea but I was wrong. The whole thing is terrific.

Light, well-paced Sci-fi with a twist

This story is written in 1st person in kind of an entertaining sarcastic voice. it seems a little shallow until the twist, then it does get a little more interesting. The author reading a book can be a bad choice, but this seems a really good one. worth a listen.

Excellent Short Story

I have nothing bad to say about this story by Adrian Tchaikovsky. It has everything that I want in a sci-fi novella: good pacing, good balance of details and mystery, and a twisted yet not-quite-unexpected ending. Rather than being pure hard science fiction, there was a hint of whimsy/humor/madness that I enjoyed. The narration (by the author) was professional.

Well written but pointless

Too many questions and too unresolved. Good performance and good prose keep you going, but why?

HP Lovecraft's "The Outsider" meets "Space Oddity"

Very Enjoyable, both a good writer and a good narrator. Some people have all the talent.
