Publisher's summary

Welcome to Travers Corners, a dusty Montana town, where nothing much has happened since Herbert Hoover stopped for gas. Travers Corners, like most small towns, has no newspaper, no radio station; but here, large trout - no better than large trout, fictitious trout - await the angler. And apart from spreading gossip outside the McCraken’s General Store, the residents of Travers Corners love nothing more than fly fishing. Scott Waldie’s delightful cast of characters breathes life into this tiny, out-of-the-way town. Meet Judson C. Clarke, boat builder and some-time guide down the waters of Carrie Creek. Jud’s best friend, Henry, knows his way around just about everything, and has a story and a laugh for everyone. Meet Dolores, the belle of Travers Corners; Sarah, who fled from New York City in search of quiet and community; Doc, who loves his profession and fly fishing - and not necessarily in that order; Ed, the mechanic who’s too patriotic to work on imports; and so many more enormous personalities. Waldie’s warmth, wit, and shrewd eye for characterization, evokes a deep nostalgia for times past and quirky communities. For fly fishers everywhere, Travers Corners will be a second home.

Never judge a book by its cover!

I find myself all the time searching for a new book and that age old advice always creeps in my head, but I usually can’t shake it. Not that this cover is a bad one, but it definitely isn’t a direct representation of what’s inside.

The story’s in this book are wonderful. The intro hit me a little strange, and if it does for you, just stick with it.

Well worth the read. I’m picky. Cynical. And ridiculous. I enjoyed every minute. A true representation of the west. You’ll fall for the characters and stay for the ending.

More than a collection of fishing stories

It's a collection of small town characters and some very good writing. Highly recommended.

Fantastic listen

This collection of stories was extremely entertaining. I have listened to a hundred books and by far this one is my favorite. I’m an avid fly fisherman which is what brought to this title. However this book is about more than fly fishing, it is about the town and the people therein. There is a story about the history and ancestors. Very well done. They don’t allow eleven stars…….

Lovely Story, Wonderful to Listen to

What was one of the most memorable moments of Travers Corners?

So many funny and tender moments-- I really remember the image of the man from the General Store fishing, alone, at the close of chapter one.

Which character – as performed by Stephen McLaughlin – was your favorite?

Stephen McLaughlin did a fantastic job--but, I especially liked D. Downey.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, I felt completely transported.

Any additional comments?

A great way to spend a rainy day.

Small town and fly fishing

Delightful short stories weaving together small town Montana, great characters and fly fishing tales. Clearly the author has spent time with all three.

Time Well Spent

What a tremendous story and entertaining characters. The book reading went by like only a few minutes. I was thoroughly impressed with the story and narrator. I would definitely recommend to someone who loves fly fishing and the American West. Enjoy Travers Corners.

More please

I loved this peaceful non political fly fishing focused story of small town Montana and those traveling through. It turns out the author wrote two more books about Travers Corners. I hope Audible releases them- and uses the same reader. McLaughlin doesn’t draw attention to himself with exaggerated accents but allows the stories to shine. A great surprise that I will rehear again.
