Historical and cultural walking tours of Europe's finest cities.
Our Madrid tour begins with the grand royal palace and the great Cathedral of Almudena which was, in fact, only finished a few years ago. You'll then hear about where the city gets its name from and we'll tell you about its development from medieval backwater to capital of half of the world.
We'll show the reveal the secret of one of the famous statues in the Madrid and then guide you through the oldest square, the grandest square and the liveliest while explaining what the Madrilenos do with grapes on New Year's Eve and why they eat so much ham.
You'll see some of the grandest buildings of the early 20th century and learn about the bizarre tragedy that befel the owner of one of them as well as hearing the story of the violet seller.
You'll not only know what's what and where to find it, but you'll get a real feeling for Madrid as you wander along to see some of the grandest buildings in the city before finishing your tour at the Golden Triangle of Art galleries.

I usually use Rick Steves tours. but he didn't have Spain on audio and I didn't feel like reading the book while walking, so got these for Madrid and Barcelona (we had also used them in Paris). I recommend these and would buy more tours by Simon Brooke. Don't forget to print the PDF, or download it to your phone. We didn't use it once the tour started, but it helped to identify the starting point.
