Publisher's summary

In this revelatory, authoritative portrait of Donald J. Trump and the toxic family that made him, Mary L. Trump, a trained clinical psychologist and Donald’s only niece, shines a bright light on the dark history of their family in order to explain how her uncle became the man who now threatens the world’s health, economic security and social fabric.

Mary Trump spent much of her childhood in her grandparents’ large, imposing house in New York, where Donald and his four siblings grew up. She describes a nightmare of traumas, destructive relationships and a tragic combination of neglect and abuse.

She explains how specific events and general family patterns created the damaged man who currently occupies the Oval Office, including the strange and harmful relationship between Fred Trump and his two oldest sons, Fred Jr. and Donald.

A first-hand witness, Mary brings an incisive wit and unexpected humour to sometimes grim, often confounding family events. She recounts in unsparing detail everything from her uncle Donald’s place in the family spotlight and Ivana’s penchant for regifting to her grandmother’s frequent injuries and illnesses and the appalling way Donald, Fred Trump’s favourite son, dismissed and derided him when he began to succumb to Alzheimer’s.

Numerous pundits, armchair psychologists and journalists have sought to explain Donald Trump’s lethal flaws. Mary Trump has the education, insight and intimate familiarity needed to reveal what makes Donald and the rest of her clan tick. She alone can recount this fascinating, unnerving saga, not just because of her insider’s perspective, but also because she is the only Trump willing to tell the truth about one of the world’s most powerful and dysfunctional families.

What a messed up family. The lot of them.

I found this book very insightful. So many things don’t make sense when watching Donald Trump play president. Mary Trump’s explanations helped to start to understand that life like him exists and that he is surrounded by family who are just a variation of like him. Don’t feel sorry for any of them with the exception of Mary and her side of the family. Well done though.

Essential Reading

Mary Trump cuts through all the static to provide incisive and indispensable insights into Donald’s psychology. Her wit, compassion and her survival despite all the trauma she recounts is a tribute to her strength of character. She is a crucial witness and commentator in current times. Thank you Mary Trump.

Balanced, factual and straight forward

If you thought this was going to be a family catfight it is not. Donalds yeah there's corruption, lawlessness and plain cruelty exposed. Enough to have anybody squirm, but we have all been desensitised.

It is time to take action.

Unfortunately his hard core fanbase will not read this

Don't vote for this man!

Very well done, non sensationalized account of what it was like in the Trump family. Does it explain DJ Trump's dysfunction? Yes, it does very well delve into the many problems of lots of families in those times with distant father and mothers and children pitted against one another for any recognition, or even love. Does it humanize Trump? No. In fact, it should make people even warier of electing him again.

The most enlightening chapter was the prologue. I doubt if any pro Trump individuals will read this book, but they should.

Enlightening

Now I have a glimpse of why, how and who Donald Trump is but more importantly for me, why good interpersonal relationship is much more important than material ends. A great book.

A complete guide to understanding Donald Trump

What I liked about this book: The book was although 6hrs to describe Donald’s upbringing and the reason for who he is today but even as short as it was,the author still made it work I can say for myself now I understand and if she hadn’t written it a lot of people would still be in the dark till today.

To whom I would recommend this book: Hmm how about the millions of people who still want to vote for him a second time and every other person who still follows his covid Doctor tips.

Ratings: Really is that a question? The book was outstanding,I live in Nigeria a country who is blindly following every whim of the president of the United States and its really affecting me and my fellow citizens. So even here in Africa we feel the brunt of trumps ignorance. So five stars to that book for telling us the truth about him I know this book will have a lot of haters but its the truth not from an outsider but from family imagine that.Excellent.

Brilliant.

I am not from the USA but follow the news pretty well. I remembered Trump from his New York days - losing money like it was dog treats. I truly could not believe he was running for President.

One of my friends votes in the Presidential elections. With DeJoy messing up the Post Office I couriered her vote, 130+ dollars but it did not connect to the Postal system at any point. We know it got there.

Now I have read Mary Trump's book and it all makes sense. Too Much and Never Enough describes it all very well. G*d save America if he runs again.

Listen with an open mind

Such a tragic story of a family that had so much promise but was so full of dysfunctional relationships.

America needs leadership which is above everything else committed to the service of its people.. this provides unique insight in a man who seems to motivated by a deep sense of personality conflict..
