Publisher's summary

Never has a king created such controversy down the centuries as Richard III, whose remains were recently unearthed under a car park in Leicester. This discovery and subsequent analysis of the skeleton inspired this meticulously researched, yet lovingly crafted, story of Richard’s short life.

Anne Easter Smith has studied this king and his period for several decades and has given us a compelling and real portrait of a three-dimensional man of his time - neither saint nor Shakespeare’s monster. Richard was known as a loyal brother, compassionate king, faithful husband, and courageous warrior, all the while hiding his cruel scoliosis. This Son of York’s themes are about duty and loyalty, but they also incorporate love, passion, tragic loss and a king’s caring for the common man.

Excellent narration of this well researched and engaging novel!!

The narrator was one of the very best male voices I’ve heard in historical fiction! Variety of accents were enjoyable, and he made Richard come alive. Despite two chapters out of order, I loved this account of Richard’s life story. The only thing I would change is the way the author made Bess (Elizabeth of York), into a silly young thing with a crush on her uncle. EOY may not have had much of a voice during her short life or been Richard’s great love, but she deserved better treatment by this author, whom I still greatly admire! My new favorite in fact.

Chapters Jumbled

It was confusing because some chapters were arranged out of order. It made it very confusing. Hopefully Audible will correct this.

enjoyed with one tip: two chapters are flipped

audible chapters 32 and 33 are backwards in this recording . you need to manually select chapter 32, then 33 and then 34 to hear the story in order.

Disappointing narrator and poor editing

I loved the other 3 books, all narrated by Rosalyn Landor. She has a great voice for both female and male. This book had long pieces of silence, and other parts in the wrong order. Listening to the death of his son, then next chapter his son is still alive. A shame to spend a credit on poorly done editing. The narrator had me debating if I could finish the book. A Rose for the Crown is the best of this series and had me in tears several times. Disappointed in this one.
