Publisher's summary

Second in the age of Madness trilogy, The Trouble with Peace is the next instalment of a series which is revolutionising fantasy....

Conspiracy. Betrayal. Rebellion.

Peace is just another kind of battlefield....

Savine dan Glokta, once Adua's most powerful investor, finds her judgement, fortune and reputation in tatters. But she still has all her ambitions, and no scruple will be permitted to stand in her way.

For heroes like Leo dan Brock and Stour Nightfall, only happy with swords drawn, peace is an ordeal to end as soon as possible. But grievances must be nursed, power seized and allies gathered first, while Rikke must master the power of the Long Eye...before it kills her.

Unrest worms into every layer of society. The Breakers still lurk in the shadows, plotting to free the common man from his shackles, while noblemen bicker for their own advantage. Orso struggles to find a safe path through the maze of knives that is politics, only for his enemies, and his debts, to multiply.

The old ways are swept aside, and the old leaders with them, but those who would seize the reins of power will find no alliance, no friendship, and no peace, lasts forever.

Just brilliant.

This series just gets better! The writing is terrific, the banter between the main characters is a joy to listen to, the narration is top-notch, and the story is faultless.

This, this is on another level in every way

Abercombie has never been better even though he is usually bloody legend. The new trilogy is a masterpiece thus far. Should also add that the audio guy, that Pacey, he is the best performer i have listened to out of my 125 audio flicks

Cant wait for the next one

Joe abercrombie returns victoriously To the land of the first law. I enjoyed this book immensly, but rather oddly the book is not as melancholy as the books of the first law scene have been so far. Anyways really good performance and writing In this one.

His best yet

It gives optimism that the sixth (seventh) one feels like the most successful overall, in terms of structure, buildup, drawing upon the previous threads. Books before have certainly had fun and thrills but there feels like a consistency of pace that hadn’t quite been as thoroughly maintained throughout the book as done here.
Or it’s recency bias, but I’m certainly satisfied.

A masterpiece in every aspect

I have read all previous books in the same universe and I keep finishing them completely blown away and amazed. This is so good, I believe I might have ruined myself by putting the bar this high for any book I'll read in the future.

Superb

The story is on par with Abercrombies best and the narration by Peter Rinney is at the highest level of quality yet heard in the series. Absolutely great audiobook

Can’t wait for the next one

The combination of Abercrombie story’s and Steven Pacey masterful reading is always an delight and this book was no exeption.
I am always amazed how may well crafted sentences, that in there own could become a saying, Abercrombie can fit in one book and all these colourful characters where almost no one is truly good or bad, hero or coward, everyone is just trying to survive what the world has dealt them, makes these books such an interesting and fun read. There are no sides to take, love them all. The only thing I miss is not being able to get a glimpse of my all time favourite character, the Bloody Nine, but you must be realistic....
