Based upon the cult television series The Tribe. Narrated by several of the original cast members, the continuing story follows on from where the TV series ended up after five seasons and is the equivalent of season six. J. Penn.

Forced to flee the city in their homeland - along with abandoning their dream of building a better world from the ashes of the old - the Mall Rats embark upon a perilous journey of discovery into the unknown. Cast adrift, few could have foreseen the dangers that lay in store. What is the secret surrounding the Jzhao Li?

Will they unravel the mysteries of The Collective? Let alone overcome the many challenges and obstacles they encounter as they battle the forces of mother nature, unexpected adversaries, and at times, even themselves?

Above all, can they build a new world in their own images - by keeping their dream alive?

Keep The Dream Alive

This book is an enjoyable continuation of The Tribe tv series. The focus was mainly on Amber, Bray, Ram, and Ebony, with the rest of the Mall Rats mostly just in the background except for a bit of stuff with Ruby and a side adventure with Lex and Jack. I would have liked to see more with the other tribe members. Otherwise it was definitely intriguing, learning about Ram’s secrets, the whereabouts of Bray and his struggle for survival, the Mall Rats’ journey after fleeing the city, and how there’s definitely something more going on in the bigger picture that has yet to be fully revealed. One thing that disappointed me was the portrayal of Trudy’s character, all the growth that she had made throughout the series to the person she had become by season 5 was practically erased and her behavior throughout this story reminded me of how she was back in season 2; I guess all the trauma she’s faced has understandably made her fall into hysterics, but I feel it was over exaggerated, because the woman Trudy had become in the tv series is stronger than how she was portrayed in the book. Anyway, I still liked the story, and I love that it’s narrated by some of the original cast members.

A trip down memory lane

As a geeky kid growing up, the Kiwi show The Tribe meant the world to me. It first introduced me to the post-apocalyptic genre, which greatly influenced my tastes and which I love still.

This is the perfect present to that kid. The return of many of the original cast (amazing!) and the use of the original soundtrack (brilliant!) really elevate this production to a level of an old time radio show. You're practically listening to new episodes of your beloved show, truly turning into the next, never made, season of The Tribe.

Ironically, the book's strength is also its weakness. The writing feels like episodes in the show, not like a book. The twists and turns and character developments are entirely Young Adult novel stuff. Which it is. Which is fine. I just came to expect more from my books.

Who am I kidding? Will definitely get the next book too!
Recommended to die hard Tribe fans.

So sad this wasn’t a sixth season on TV

I love The Tribe and all the Mall Rats are and stand for!!! I just finished the tv show and I’m so sad this wasn’t up for season, but… This is a great read and good for the imagination, especially for myself to be familiar with some of the characters from the series so I can picture exactly how it could be as if I was to watch it. Immediately running to the next books🏃🏾‍♀️🙌🏾😍🥹

Just like watching the tv series!

The story only gets darker and grittier! Taking off were the series ended it’s like still watching the show being read to you. The voices from the actual cast members makes it even more mentally visual.
