Publisher's summary

A terrorist’s bomb killed her brother - is Laura the next target? Laura and Billy are all-American expat kids living in London with their parents. Charming eleven-year-old Billy wants to be an entrepreneur and is making a good start with his paper route and by selling American macaroni-and-cheese to his British friends. Pretty teenaged Laura is so boy-crazy she hopes her unique crush-ranking system will be attractive to college admissions boards. But their carefree lives change forever when Billy is handed a mysterious package in a London Underground station.

In a heartbreaking instant, Billy becomes a hero and a victim, and his family is left to mourn his tragic loss. Her parents try to move on, but Laura is determined to stop at nothing to find whoever is responsible for killing her brother. She embarks on a journey of paranoia and obsession that won’t stop until she discovers the shocking truth.

Just Who is the Real Terrorist?

It has been said that we cannot focus ourselves on destroying an evil person without becoming somewhat like them. When teenaged Laura's vibrant, life-loving brother, only eleven years old, is killed by a homemade bomb, deliberately given him by a stranger while leaving a London subway, Laura vows to revenge him. She sets out on a bitter mission that obsesses her and alienates her from her worried friends. Caroline Cooney is a gifted story teller who extends suspense to a painful and masterfully-handled length that keeps you turning pages. The characterizations are compelling and the novel has a message that reminds me of a Shakespearean one. Can anyone, like Hamlet, revenge herself on an evildoer without becoming somewhat like him? Is the price worth it?

did not enjoy this narrator

the book is written from the viewponts of several people. there are no audible breaks between stories. she jumps from one character to the next without even a pause. confusing. content wouldn't make sense. I didn't realize she had changed characters. my mind would still be listening to Laura's story not realizing the story had switched to nicholes or jimmys story.
