Publisher's summary

In the course of their investigation into Leonardo da Vinci, Lynn Pickett and Clive Prince found clues about his strangely passionate belief in the importance of John the Baptist.

Here, along with a reassessment of the significance of Mary Magdalene and the sacred feminine, the authors reveal that Da Vinci’s apparently peculiar religion was shared by the Knights Templar. And their profoundly heretical belief that the Baptist was superior to Jesus himself still has the power to pose a threat to the very foundations of the Christian Church....

Very entertaining and enlightening.

Puts a lot of pieces together of a story that spans multiple centuries and culture. Expands on Holy Blood Holy Grail in a fresh study of what it is the Templar's are protecting.

Pretty good overall but not for the reason I wanted the book

Entertaining. Makes me want to research the topic. I'm not sure how much I'm buying all of it yet as I don't get sucked into conspiracies without evidence. But I did like it. I recommend it in general for a history of middle eastern cult activity around the time of Jesus. Even for more about John the Baptist. I felt that I did not learn much about the Templars. That was a bummer.

Must Read For Western Esoteric Students

definitely read Holy Blood, Holy Grail before this one. This book was inspired by HBHG and makes many references to it. In many ways this book reads like a sequel to HBHG written by different authors. I was pleasantly surprised by how much of this work is about Western Occultism. Much of the book is spent exploring esoteric philosophy and placing in its historical context. I have always been fascinated by John the Baptist and this book contains a beautiful exploration of his real personage and place in history. If you are a Mason or a Rosicrucian this will be an initiatory document for you.

extreme in depth

it's long, but well worth it. if you want short overview, there are others, but this is a total depiction of Templars.
