Publisher's summary

Children should not just hear about history, they should live it. In The Story of Civilization, the ancient stories that have shaped humanity come alive like never before. Author Phillip Campbell uses his historical expertise and story-telling ability together in tandem to present the content in a fresh and thrilling way.

The Story of Civilization reflects a new emphasis in presenting the history of the world as a thrilling and compelling narrative. Within each chapter, children will encounter short stories that place them directly in the shoes of historical figures, both famous and ordinary, as they live through legendary battles and invasions, philosophical debates, the construction of architectural wonders, the discovery of new inventions and sciences, and the exploration of the world.

Volume I, The Ancient World, begins the journey, covering the time periods from the dawn of history and the early nomads, to the conversion of Emperor Constantine. Children will learn what life was like in the ancient civilizations of Egypt, Mesopotamia, Persia, Greece, Rome, and more, as well as learn the Old Testament stories of the Israelites and the coming of Christ.

The strength of the content lies not only in the storybook delivery of it, but also in the way it presents history through the faithful prism of the Church. Have you always wanted your children to learn about world history from a Catholic perspective? Here, you'll have the trusted resource you've always wanted.

Phenomenal

We have enjoyed this audio so much and use it for our history for homeschool. We have listened to it about 10 times by now. It is the Catholic version of “Story of the World”.

makes learning interesting!

I used this as a part of my sons history curriculum. He loved it, and so did I! I've never liked history, but when you listen to it in story format it becomes not only more interesting but stays with you more easily.

Brings history alive

My 3 kids (7,5,3) loved listening to the story of civilization. It’s really well put together, takes the dryness out of history. The short fictional stories that are scattered throughout bring history alive and make it really enjoyable.

A brilliant panorama of the ancient world

This book is not just for children - adults will learn much from it too. It will turn even a history novice into a very knowledgeable person in just a few hours! The breadth and scope of content is impressive spanning the first civilisations of Mesopotamia right through to the conversion of Constantine.

It has sufficient depth and pace to keep interest and I loved the vignettes where the reader takes you into great historical moments and the lives of prominent characters of yesteryear.

Unlike most secular books, this one also provides due treatment of the Biblical narrative and its importance in world history. For parents or listeners with sensibilities, It does not delve needlessly into the details of debauchery and depravity which characterised many of these passages of time.

I loved this volume so much and found it so fascinating that I just purchased the next instalment.

wow!

Thank you Philip Campbell for the excellent work! It's a very well-told story with plenty of background information as well as sound effects and music. My kids aged 10, 8 and 6 well loving it! My three year old tolerated it for parts, but it is definitely aimed at school aged children. My husband and I learned a lot and found it really enjoyable. Absolutely worth your time!

Good performance, story needs work

The story is not as interesting as Story of the World (doesn’t keep kids engaged). We’ll be going back to SOTW.

Fantastic resource for History

My kids and I thoroughly enjoyed, listening to story of civilization! We used it along with our “story of the world curriculum,” and it matched up incredibly well. The dramatization, narration and information was all incredible and we learned a lot. I would highly recommend to anyone to use this as a resource for history.
