Publisher's summary

Is the Bible, the most influential book in world history, still relevant?

Why do people dismiss it as being irrelevant, irrational, immoral, or all of these things?

This explanation of the Book of Deuteronomy, the fifth book of the Bible, will demonstrate how it remains profoundly relevant - both to the great issues of our day and to each individual life.

Do you doubt the existence of God because you think believing in God is irrational? This book will cause you to reexamine your doubts.

The title of this commentary is The Rational Bible because its approach is entirely reason-based. The listener is never asked to accept anything on faith alone. In Dennis Prager’s words, “If something I write is not rational, I have not done my job.”

The Rational Bible is the fruit of Prager’s forty years of teaching to people of every faith and no faith at all. In virtually every section, you will discover how the text relates to the contemporary world in general and to you on a personal level.

His goal: to change your mind - and, as a result, to change your life.

Thankful Catholic

What an excellent book/series! As a devout Catholic I know that we have a poor reputation for memorizing, our even being familiar with, scripture. My favorite thing about the Bible, though, is the "notes". As I read, I can't help but think, "what did that mean?" or "how does this fit with that?" or "WHY do we care about how many pineapple shaped ornaments there were!?!?" For the New Testament there are a plethora or resources for such questions, but Old Testament resources are fewer. I only wish Dennis had time to rationalize the ENTIRE Old Testament instead of just the Torah! God bless him for his work, for his research, and for his furthering the Kingdom! To date I only own a paper copy of Genesis and audio copies of Genesis, Exodus, and Deuteronomy, but I'm looking forward to owning all paper copies to eventually hand down to my children.

Mr. Prager is a blessing

Mr Pragers work in this series has helped me rediscover my relationship with the lord.

The only thing that could make this better is Mr.Prager reading it himself!

Excellent reference, offering a perspective few Christians have available!

This is the 3rd in his series on the Torah & as with the others provides us with a perspective that enables the Christian a view through the eyes of those for whom this book was initially written!

Understanding

This book was more difficult to get through . It made me think, challenge, reconsider and ultimately understand more than I could ever imagine. It took much longer for me to digest than the first two, and I have to say, I loved listening and learning Genesis lots more, but this was important. I am glad I got through it and recommend others do the same.

Very interesting!

Great explanation on early laws. Dennis gives rational explanations to even the most archaic laws. Great narration!

One of my favorite authors.

Dennis Prager’s commentary on the Old Testament is without doubt the most eye opening of any I have ever read. Being a Christian I don’t always agree with his conclusions but I do have a much better understanding of the history behind my beliefs.
