Publisher's summary

Multimillion-copy bestselling author Gregory Maguire brings us the enchanting second novel in the series Another Day, returning to the world he first created in Wicked.

The Oracle of Maracoor, the second in the trilogy called Another Day, continues the story of Elphaba’s green-skinned granddaughter, Rain. That strange land, Maracoor—across the ocean from Oz—is beset by an invading army. In the mayhem, Rain and Cossy, a child felon, break out of prison. Helped by a few flying monkeys, they struggle to escape the city before it falls under siege. Their arresting officer, Lucikles, also retreats with his family to a highland redoubt. But safety eludes them all. Chaos thunders upon them in the form of warriors, refugees, and brigands. The very fabric of reality loosens, liberating creatures of myth and legend—huge blue wolves, harpies, and giants made of the very landscape.

Cued in by secrets known only to the most highly placed members of the royal court, Rain and her companions hunt the fabled Oracle of Maracoor for guidance and soothsaying. Rain has to recover her forgotten past if she is to consider returning home. Cossy, the ten-year-old convicted of murder, must become invisible to avoid being taken into custody again. Meanwhile, the Fist of Mara, an arcane artifact that renders all around it barren, hammers against human lives. If the reclusive Oracle should spin a prophecy, might the desperate wicked years promise another day, one less perilous?

Addicted!

I adore these books. A perfect mixture of every genre. Elements of romance, drama, action, mystery, etc. wonderfully read, as well.

Amazing as usual!!

Thanks Gregory!! Again a brilliant book and the narrator did a fabulous job!! Can’t wait for the next one! I’ll be listening to this again but I will start at Wicked and work all the way through to the Oracle. Love it!!!

A worthy sequel

This is everything I wanted from a sequel to Out of Oz. I was a bit on the fence with the last book which didn’t focus on Rain enough for my taste, and this book provided me with everything I felt was missing from that one. The structure of the story and writing style is comfortably familiar. I still don’t particularly care for the narrator of the book, but she did a good job anyways. I’m already eagerly awaiting the third book.

Plodding along

It's taken 2 books of a trilogy, but the story is finally moving along. I love the characters and the writing is top-notch, but the lack of plot development is annoying. Not saying it needs to be a Jack Ryan action novel, but it's been slow to say the least. I'll get the 3rd book since I'm invested now, but hopefully it's a satisfying conclusion.

Excellent!

The emergence of the Wizard of Oz was a great tie-in. I hope Rain finds what she is looking for in the next book!!

No Spoilers

This continuation is everything I have wanted. I may wished for them to be longer, but that is only because I can not get enough of this world. The way this story concluded is exactly how I thought it would be once I got about half way through the story. I absolutely loved it, because it gave me a full circle to some lingering feelings from the original series. I prey the next book draws to a complete conclusion as well. I can't wait.

LOVE this series!

This series got me through a drive up the eastern seaboard! Thank you Gregory Maguire for your brilliance. This is the perfect sequel to The Wicked series. The narrator was great and kept me captivated with the story.
