Publisher's summary

Hope Carpenter opens up about her personal struggles that nearly destroyed her family, her church, and her ministry, but then God did something miraculous—out of her brokenness, He made something beautiful.

As co-pastor of one of the nation's largest megachurches, Hope Carpenter had perfected the roles of supportive wife, good mother, devoted worship leader, and dutiful homemaker. But inside, she was secretly ashamed, sad, and afraid. She didn't know who she was, and she didn't know how to ask for help without bringing down the whole façade. A series of bad choices led to multiple affairs; her husband kicked her out and announced from the pulpit of their church that their marriage was over. Hope was sure her life was done. But in her lowest moments, something beautiful happened. God met her there, and, with a lot of hard work, time, and mountains of therapy, she started to understand the pain that had caused her to act out. She and her family faced their brokenness together, and in powerful acts of forgiveness only God could have arranged, they all found real breakthrough and healing. Ron and Hope rebuilt their marriage and their family, and their ministry thrives today.

In The Most Beautiful Disaster, Hope helps listeners understand the lasting impact of childhood trauma and gives listeners practical steps to uncovering the root of pain in their own lives. She shows how small decisions can lead to big changes, and helps listeners find healing and wholeness in Scripture and prayer. Ultimately, listeners will be led to hope, reconciliation, and true freedom.

Critic reviews

"Hope Carpenter holds nothing back in her new book. A life marked by trauma and shame becomes a picture of God’s redeeming grace. This book is vulnerable and powerful.” (Pastor Steven and Holly Furtick, Elevation Church)

"Riveting. Authentic. Deeply touching. This read is inspiring and touches the soul of the reader. The way Hope draws us into her life’s story is impactful. Very few can do that effectively. She cuts through the fluff of our modern church culture to get down to the real truth - the maskless self that's exposed before God. If you want your life to be changed forever, READ THIS BOOK!" (Heather and Cornelius Lindsey, authors)

"Hope Carpenter, you’ve been reading our email! Okay, let’s be honest. We’ve been caught fronting - putting on fake Instagram happy faces while trying to mask some unimaginable hurt from our past. Here, Hope reveals her own very personal trauma and shows us how to unravel our internal tangle of secrets and allow those old wounds to finally heal. It’s time to get real: Nobody’s perfect! And it’s comforting just to know we’re not the only one with scars.” (Pastor Nicole Crank, host of The Nicole Crank Show, author, speaker, and cofounder of FaithChurch.com)

POWERFUL STORY!

To be honest I am not a reader in any way shape or form... I recently set a goal for my life to start reading books more and that within five years I wanted to read 60 books. That might not sound like a lot to some people but for me that is a huge number. This book was one of the easiest reads I have ever accomplished. I absolutely love this book! thank you Hope for writing this book! Thank you for being open and vulnerable to share your testimony to the world!

Hope’s voice

A story like this should only be told in the author’s voice. I am so glad Hope chose to read it. She has taken her brokenness and ultimate beauty that came from it and made a bouquet of hope for others who are suffering in pain. Many thanks to her and her family for telling the story. I am so glad their marriage and ministry survived. I follow them daily and weekly. God is still using them mightily. Don’t miss this book on Audible. I only wish Ron had read the Afterward. But it is still incredible. Every woman loves a great love story. This is a testament to God’s unconditional love. ❤️ 💐

Beautifully Raw

What an amazingly, authentic and raw journey through the life of the Carpenters. I loved Hope’s genuine communication of the truth of not only her life but the lives of many who sit in churches week after week. There is a reason her name is Hope Carpenter - the Lord (The Carpenter) recreated, restructured, redirected and renewed that wounded little girl giving her hope in Him, Jesus Christ her Lord. And in turn uses her to share this hope to all who dare to to become a Most Beautiful Disaster. A must read/listen!

Inspiring and soul shifting

When I decided to read this book, I was hesitant I didn’t want to worry I would look at my Pastor’s differently. I went through the wave of emotions as my beautiful pastor spoke her truth. I didn’t think I could feel so connected as so did. I am so honored to have been able to read her book and share it as well. Thank you Pastor Hope I love you.

I loved this book. It’s literally filled with hope for the most broken lives. I’m so grateful that the Carpenters were willing to share their deep pain and personal failures. It’s given me such hope for the most difficult circumstances in my life. Whether you need your marriage restored or a parent child relationship restored. You’ll find such hope and help from this book. I learned so much. I love how nothing is impossible for God.

A MUST READ!

Wow! What a beautiful story of how God takes our broken messes and makes them beautiful. I love that Pastor Hope is reading this book herself. It is like she is sitting right next to me telling me her personal journey. I’ve watched as this transformation has taken place and stand in awe at the handy work of God! I applaud Pastor Ron and Hope and their family for leaning in and never giving up!!! They have truly changed their families destiny for generations to come.

a great testimony of what God can do with a life.

many people would not choose to put themselves in such a public place to share their faults and problems. What Hope has done is share her story so others can hear what can be done by a willing vessel. I enjoyed the story with Hope narrating. I feel I know her and Ron Carpenter better because of this book. I highly recommend.
